Hello everybody!

Anyone have any suggestions on any books, essay, writings, that sort of thing that could improve my poker play and math skills. I haven't been playing all that much lately and I noticed that when I did play that I felt that my game wasn't all that good(Plan on playing more frequently soon). Was not contemplating the game enough specially because I didn't know what to think about other than basically probability theory.

I am specifically looking for books and such that use a mathematic based approach towards the game, maybe some Game Theory.

If you typed your questions into google, the very thing you wish to receive would be in front of you. You should read each book you buy as if everything it says is true, while also being realistic that information is relative. Relate what you see from the tables, with what you read from the books and make your own hypothesis and conclusions to their validity/relevancy to each table/opponent/flop/betsizings.

This is the only way to learn if you want a future in poker, as I am not going to give you a fish. As we all know, if I gave you a fish today, tmrw it will be rotten, expiring like any post/book/article expires with time.

I have learned from poker that being at the table is not a grind, the grind is living and poker is how I pass the time

I did. Yeah I am definitely not going to follow that advice; "You should read each book you buy as if everything it says is true..".

But I was just wondering if there is anything reputable, something you may know off? I am pretty ignorant to a great deal of things, and poker is one of many. It seems to me that is something where one can easily be taken advantage over another by supply them illegitimate, wrong, bad information. (Just like a lot of things). Sure, you could deceive me just like a link off google, but I would like to think otherwise. And don't get me wrong, asking for advice off some random forum you stumbled upon(speed math post) while trying to find a math link isn't really all that much better, if any better than google.

If you asked me about something I know about, like say immunology or mathematics I would gladly try to help you out. I wouldn't dare to send you off to some psuedoscience site, because it's just morally wrong. Helping others to me, is something that is necessary for life to keep evolving. If you type straight in on google some science related things you will find a great deal of junk. It is quite hard to sort through the fraudulent information if you don't understand much about the subject.

I am not trying to go pro or anything. Mainly play occasionally once every 2 months, and when I do play its purely about improving my math skills and having fun.

you should read everything as true, that is the only way to learn. Called having an open mind. That doesn't mean in the end the information is true and that is what you should conclude after reading, not while reading.

Anyways, there are tons of poker math books, I am sure any of them will be fine, mathematics of poker, sklanskys theory of poker, any thing really has validity. As for optimal strategy, you can just derive from whatever you observe from you opponents, as that is all that's important in poker.

Pokerstove or any ev calc will do for finding range breakdowns

go read sauce123's blog on leggopoker. he has a post where he reviews every major poker publication and tells you which ones are worth the time and which ones aren't. no better resource out there for people who want to learn by reading.

except that he says to not bother reading basically anything which is absurdly contradictory to his very own philosophy of reading everything he can find.

I just got done reading all of his blogs from the last 4 years... Pretty much the guy suggests two books that are poker related, and those two were the ones you suggested Highcard.

I once dreamt I woke up, did my normal shit. Turned on the pc, and then when the yellow page popped up, noticed I had some pm's.

It was from longple, mipwnya, daut and Ket.

They had been talking, and they had found out they really want to take me on as a student, to see how good they could get me!!

And shortly after I woke, and everything felt pretty similar to what I've dreamt. Got so fired up!! (Imagine my excitement)
Ran over to my computer I did, and LOL, I had 1 PM, so fkn (I rarely swear, but notice, here's a swearword) nervous, could barely breathe lol.

Slowly... I clicked it....

I started trying to play cash a while back, and just wanted to say that Leakbuster has been a huge help for me.
It has really helped me get my stats into the optimal ranges, and has alot of great video content, written content, etc.

What the hell kinda nickname is profits of doom.

mjustsayin'

but eh seriously
what are profits of doom?

Twisted    Netherlands. Aug 24 2012 19:23. Posts 10422

cuz you know, it's doom, so we're all doomed

why would profits help then

are you talking about monetary profits? or profits on the whole 'doom' situation you got going on? like that dude in the video game made by id software in 1993 who basically solves the doom by killing a bunch of zombies and shit?
