Date: Saturday, January 28th
Preliminary Card (FuelTV): 16:00 LP.net
Main Card Time (FOX): 19:00 LP.net
Live Streams: Live on FOX - http://www.vipbox.tv (All MMA events are listed under the UFC button. Press the UFC button and you'll see the event in the list.)
- The event will be the first to be broadcast on Fox as part of a seven year agreement between the UFC and the network and the second to air live on Fox after the inaugural UFC on Fox: Velasquez vs. Dos Santos.
- A bout between Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Wineland was originally slated for this event. However, Johnson was pulled from the bout to be a participant in the UFC's Flyweight tournament set to begin in March. Wineland was then expected to face Johnny Bedford at this event. However, Wineland himself was forced out of the bout with an injury and replaced by promotional newcomer Mitch Gagnon.
- Paul Sass was expected to face Evan Dunham, but was forced from the bout with an injury and replaced by Nik Lentz.
- Cody McKenzie was expected to face Michael Johnson at the event, but was forced from the bout with an injury and replaced by Shane Roller.
- Mark Munoz was expected to face Chael Sonnen at this event in a #1 contender's bout for a middleweight title shot, but was forced out of the bout with an injury, and was replaced by Michael Bisping, who was pulled from a scheduled fight with Demian Maia on the same card to replace Munoz. Maia's new opponent became Chris Weidman.

Rashad > Davis (via TKO. It might be a UD for Rashad if he cant finish it, but I don't see Davis winning. Both had only 1 fight in 2011, with Rashad coming off a 1+ year layoff .)
Sonnen > Bisping (via TKO by way of GnP.)
Weidman > Maia (I'm not sure how the fight will end, but Weidman keeps showing in each fight he has skill and gets better each time. He apparently has good BJJ skills too.)
Dunham > Lentz (via Decision)
Einemo > Russow (via TKO. Einemo is 0-1 in the UFC while Russow is 3-0 in the UFC, but Russow is the guy who got his ass kicked against Todd Duffee for 3 rounds and landed 1 punch and got the KO, and he's not good imo.)
Gagnon > Bedford (via Submission. Bedford sucks and will probably be cut after this loss.)
Swanson > Roop (via Submission.)
Oliveira > Wisely (via TKO)
Johnson > Roller (via TKO. Bother are wrestlers, Johnson's hands looked better in his last fight, Roller sucks.)
Beltran > Johnson (via TKO. I see both these guys at the mid level of the HW division, but Lavar is coming from the Strikeforce mid level and fighting a UFC mid level fighter. Lavar cant KO Beltran.)
Jacoby > Camozzi (via TKO.)

I really hope Davis takes it but obviously not sure. I think he's a better wrestler though and I'm still not sold on Rashad's "black belt".
I think Sonnen will decision Bisping and I'm sick excited for Weidman and Maia. If Weidman BJJ is half as good as you'd think from his ADCC performance a while back he'll be a real force. Dunno if he can take a punch but if he learns to move his head a bit he could be a challenge for Silva.
Einemo is really good too. I think he messes up Russow on the feet and you wouldn't want to go to the ground with him.

Pretty tough to make a lot of money on a 5 to 1 favorite. Also, I'm a Sonnen fan (and dislike Bisping too much like 96% of the known world) but he's not knocking anyone out Henderson style.
Sonnen might eat several jabs here and there but I don't see how Bisping will be strong enough to stop the inevitable takedown and from there Sonnen's just gonna pound away without much danger of any submissions coming back at him.

rashad, but not as confident as i once was.
sonnen
weidman did well at adcc with barely any experience so i do favor him slightly over maia, but not by much.
then i like dunham, einemo, roop, oliveira, johnson, johnson, jacoby
i think johnny bedford is one of the bright spots from TUF. hes very good for a tuf fighter and i expect him to stick around a while.

Anderson acts nice before the fight then clowns on them during the fight.
Chael clowns on them before the fight, and just then just fights.

Rashad. Phil Davis wrestling has unimpressed me, and getting your shots stuffed by lil nog for 1.5 rounds doesn't bode well for taking down rashad who is a vastly superior wrestler to baby nog. On the feet Phil Davis looks incredibly awkward, slow, uncoordinated, tentative and most importantly stiff. Stiff fighters are the most prone to being knocked out. So I'm going to go with rashad by KO. I put a small bet on him, but its a pretty meh bet. Mainly because the blackzillian camp has looked really terrible so far, they're 1-3 with the only win being rashad over tito. They seem to have problems getting their fighters on weight, and melvin guillards game plan looked really really bad. That and Shad has shown a tendency to gas, and it's a 5 rounder. So if rashad doesn't get the KO in the first two rounds he might fade enough to lose. Pretty close overall, but going with shad.
Chael Sonnen - Gonna own bisping. I actually think Chael is a better striker than bisping, and obviously a much better wrestler. I think Chael beats him everywhere. Only thing bisping has going for him is the fact that he is probably focusing a ton of his training on submitted chael, since he made the comment, " If he takes he down I'm going to sub him. " Thats the right mindset against Chael, since focusing on stopping the takedown or getting back up from it won't get you far. Don't feel like dropping 2g's on chael to win a few hundred, so not gonna bet it.
Weidman - via being possibly the greatest BJJ grappling Phenom in history. He won the eastern ADCC trails with 8 months training, won his first round match in the final tournament and made it to the quarter finals in which he grappling to a 4-0 lose to Galvao, one of the very best BJJ artists in the world. That's with only 8 months of BJJ training, thats retarded sick. If he fights smart I think he's got this.

I used to like Sonnens comedy but he is also a huge douchebag for example, now he backed out of the challenge (about him leaving the UFC if he lost) and he was absurdly agressive against a reporting confronting him about it among other shitty things he has done, the clown thing is just a mask for his true doucebagness... Will look to place a large bet on Rashad. Phil Davis looks like he's deathly afraid to strike every time I watch him fight and I dont see him being able to take down Rashad consistently enough.
Sonnen by decision is an another bet I'm considering.
Also gonna toy around in my head for a bit with Maia (actually an underdog..), Maia via sub, and mb Russow.

I agree with this a lot. Silva's fake respect/nice shit and then clowning around during the Maia fight before his bowing shit right after is just headxplodingly gay to me. I'd seriously almost rather be a fan of Bisping
The way people romanticize the "bow" as being some serious business is ridiculous.

Seeing that .gif image of Silva vs. Franklin reminds me how old school Franklin's style of fighting is. It's amazing he's been able to stick around this long and continue to be a decent fighter for the most part. I'm a Franklin fan, but I guess it's cuz his personality/background story/heart of a lion, not so much of his overall skill, just like how I still like Tito Ortiz for some reason (except when he opens his mouth and sucks Dana/Fertitta's dick).

Rashad is 3-0 after he lost the belt in May 2009, and don't forget he was hurt for awhile and didn't fight, which makes sense for such few fights since then.
Anyway, he lost the belt and then fought Thiago Silva (11-1 at the time, only lost was to Lyoto), then Rampage Jackson (I saw the fight, but don't remember it clearly. Wasn't this a close fight?), then Tito Ortiz (Tito was 1-4-1 going into this fight in his last 6, WTF?). Rashad beat Thiago via Decision, Rampage via Decision, and Tito via knee to the body + punches.
Looks like Rashad's opponents got weaker over time. So this fight against Phil Davis seems to finally be a step up in competition, instead of padding his record with wins against old school fighters with big names who are still hanging around (Rampage/Tito).
I already think Rashad will beat David, but I thought the above was interesting.

rashad was an extremely underwhelming mma fighter up until his last 2 fights.
-rashad was extremely unimpressive against tito/bisping back in the day.
-i hate to use the term "caught" as i think its one of the lamest excuses possible, but until rashad "caught" chuck with one of the best KO of all time, he was losing the fight.
-rashad was getting crushed by forrest until he took forrest down midway through the 3rd round and pounded him out. in the first 2 rounds he was outstruck 46-23 and looked on his way to losing a one sided decision.
-he looked awful against machida and like he didnt deserve to be in the cage with him
-the thiago silva fight was a bad performance. he managed to get 8 takedowns, but only landed 12 strikes the entire fight. he was actually outlanded 31-12 and was nearly finished in the 3rd round. if it had happened at the beginning of the first round, he would have been finished, but thiago was pretty gassed by that point.
-the rampage fight was the first time he looked impressive as a fighter. his striking looked good, his wrestling was fluid and transitioned well from his striking. he really put it all together and looked like a complete mma fighter in this bout. of course he was nearly finished again in the 3rd round, but was saved because rampage was also horribly gassed out, just as thiago silva was.
-the tito fight he again looked impressive, but lets not forget that a) he was fighting a total has been and b) tito took rashad down early on.
i do think phil davis has a chance here. its not like rashad is some amazing striker or amazing wrestler. hes ok at both and was able to use both against opponents he could, but until recently he has been wholly unimpressive for a top 10 fighter. i do favor him in this fight, but i think phil is a live dog with an athleticism/strength/wrestling/reach advantage. i also think if phil utilizes kicks on the outside well he can do ok standing with rashad

Rampage/Evans was close as a fight but Rampage really didn't do much for it not to be a clear decision win for Evans. And I'm speaking as a Evans detractor and Rampage fan.
I guess it's not difficult to look impressive against Tito these days but I thought Evans was really fluid and on point for having long layoffs. Bet Davis small for fun though...coz well...F Evans and F Jon Jones. Don't even care about their rivalry because I dislike them both, and Jones will probably stomp him anyways

i used the wrong words, he does toys with people and we all love when he drops his hands down and engages the Matrix mode, its probably one of the things i enjoy the most in MMA and probably many others doo too, however what he did with Maia wasnt this, proo of that is that White said he would cut him from UFC even if he was the champion if he ever do something like that again.

^ From Wiki: In the first two rounds fighting Maia, Silva appeared to mock his opponent while employing quick, precise striking. In the third round, however, Silva's tempo seemed to change. He looked to Maia to be the aggressor while he largely circled and taunted his opponent. In the fifth round, Silva's lack of action prompted referee Dan Miragliotta to warn Silva for his conduct. The crowd began to side with Maia, who was the only fighter attempting to engage. After 5 rounds, Silva was declared the winner via unanimous decision.
Silva was widely criticized for his performance. Dana White said it was the most embarrassed he had ever been since becoming UFC president. Midway through the fourth round, White walked away from the fight and gave the championship belt to Silva's manager, Ed Soares. White was so annoyed that he declined to personally place the belt around Silva's waist, claiming it was the first time he had done so after a title match. It was also claimed that Silva verbally taunted Maia saying "Come on, hit me in the face playboy."

Silva's real fault is that he has zero personality to go along with his antics. Ali was more a piece of shit than Silva is in and outside the ring but had charisma so everyone loved him. I'm done being annoyed with Silva during the Damian fight and just accepted that he is truly the best fighter in MMA by far

Well Ali was a megalomaniac douche, but Silva is just a fake.
"oh i love brazilians, love to everyone, go brazil brazil brazil brazil brazil brazil brazil...." Then he proceeds to humilliate fellow brazilian fighters, even fucking legends who he is supposedly friendly with (Belfort) he comes out with a retarded fag white mask and get in Belforts face wtf is that shit, he is just a pathetic asshole, but its a delight watching him fight

I don't know much about HW boxing anymore since that whole scene sucks, but that few matches that get shown on HBO throughout the year show me that the HW's are getting bigger and slower, and the Klitschko brothers are the most technical in the division but fight from the outside and point fight, since they have the belts already they're just trying to defend instead of get down and dirty.
Hari has speed and power, but he needs to learn boxing technique. The good thing is, he just turned 27 years old in December 2011, so he has a few years to work on that technique and he might get a quick ride to TV matches because of his name, he just needs to can crush a lot like other guys do.

Swanson > Roop (via Submission.)
Oliveira > Wisely (via TKO)
Johnson > Roller (via TKO. Bother are wrestlers, Johnson's hands looked better in his last fight, I think Roller sucks but most MMA media guys say Roller will win via submission.)
Beltran > Johnson (via TKO. I see both these guys at the mid level of the HW division, but Lavar is coming from the Strikeforce mid level and fighting a UFC mid level fighter. Lavar cant KO Beltran. Beltran lost 20 pounds of burrito fat, nigga looks good and is on a strict diet since 5 weeks ago.)
Jacoby > Camozzi (via TKO.)

- Camozzi won, but I forgot it was the only fight on Facebook.
- Lavar Johnson won, but I was outside changing a light bulb. He won via TKO. (Which I'm glad, but I voted for Beltran.)
- Michael Johnson looked good, his striking is better but still needs work but his TDD is sick. Funny that all the MMA media guys were thinking Roller had the better wrestling and would submit Johnson.
- Easy win for Charles Oliveira. It looked like a gimme fight to get him back into the win column.
- DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN! What a sick KO from Cub, he hit Roop so hard that his whole head turned to the opposite side and his mouth piece flew out and hit the cage and flew back toward Cub.
- Crappy fight by Einamo, faggot gassed out and was acting like this was a BJJ match instead of MMA. Now people are gonna stay on the Russow hype train when he's a shitty fighter.
- Great fight between Dunham and Lentz. Too bad the fight had to be stopped due to Lentz eye getting busted up, round 3 would have been sexy.
- rofl at both Maia and Weidman's gas tank. Both have sloppy boxing and both were completely gassed in round 3, was so funny. Weidman takes the split decision.

ufc not going to let bisping win this without a KO, too much money to lose if sonnen loses.
i want bisping to win though coz he kind of deserves it too, they both will get raped by Silva anyway

That decision was fixed just as much as Manny Pacquiao vs. Marquez 3 was fixed.
1 judge gave it 30-27 for Sonnen, when Bisping easily won round 2. The other 2 judges gave it 29-28 which I can see, since round 1 was close.
I was rooting for Sonnen, but both Sonnen and Bisping were gassed in round 2, Sonnen looked like shit tonight and was getting tagged by Bisping.
Bisping's mouth was moving and he said something when Chael had his back in round 3 and was on top of him against the cage.

Wah wah wah 'fixed fixed.' There can't just be slightly differing opinions in a close fight that only has 3 possible rounds to score?
It was a weird fight where the only definitive round was Chael's in the third. But that happens a lot in the UFC if you haven't noticed. The first two rounds were close enough to the point that I wouldn't have been shocked at scores of 29-28 Bisping all the way to 30-27 Sonnen.

davis is really showing how raw he is. He's one of those guys that are genetically superior but his striking has so many flaws. Evans seems to have the timing of his leg kicks down and now he's so hesitant to throw them

The prelim fights were nice, the 3 main card fights were not. Everyone in the main card fights gassed out and ended up making their fights look shitty.
Rashad has a lot of work to do before he faces Jon Jones. Jones is probably laughing his ass off right now while he was watching Rashad vs. Phil.
I don't see how Rashad can beat Jones outside of the 1st round. If Rashad wins, it will be via 1 big punch connecting then massive follow up punches.
----------
IMO, KO of the night goes to Cub Swanson, Submission goes to Charles Oliveira, FOTN goes to Evan Dunham vs. Nik Lentz.

Yeah main card was shit.
Main event- Davis was just too inexperienced but good enough not to get finished.
Co-main event- Sonnen was crap. Can chalk it up to the last minute change.
Maia fight- Maia is washed up, weldman short notice.

Bisping had a post fight interview with Ariel H(??) whatever his name is and he was surprisingly really, really classy about the decision. Thinking he had won the first two rounds (obviously a valid argument) but congratulating Sonnen and saying that's what happens when it goes to the judges sometimes. Sonnen talked crap but never really directed much of it actually towards Bisping pre-fight and after. They also touched gloves pre fight and pre-3rd round. Pretty funny that the two biggest trash talkers in the sport get together for a fight and for as much as they could, got along really well

UFC's fault they spoiled the fans in the past 3 years with hype(too many ppvs) The results realistically can't follow the "storyline" - this ain't the WWE and I don't think the UFC can last as long as Pro wrestling has..

Only watched the main card but those 3 fights were alright.
Maia gassed and has turned into a Gurgel, never threatening to use BJJ until it was too late. For Sonnen vs Bisping I can see it pretty much going either way so the arguing is kind of spastic. I will say that I don't think inactive clinching is scored very highly though in the eyes of the judges. Davis looked alright but Evans was just that next level in every area. Also I noticed that Phils feet were slipping all over the place the whole fight, thought that was weird. These two set a pretty good pace and looked decent after 5 so I don't really get the gassing comments. I'd have to watch it again though to make sure.
Also the Bisping vs Sonnen "trash talk" was all bullshit. It should come as no surprise that both guys can talk normally after the fight. In fact it was some of the more forced and obvious empty trashing I've seen.

UFC really dropped the ball on the fox card lineups.
The first fox card if you were forced to choose just one fight, then cain vs JDS was a hell of a choice. I dont care if it did end in 64 seconds, it would have been the fight I chose as well. The mistake they made was not pushing to have 2 or 3 fights on that card, because guida vs henderson was guaranteed fireworks. I know it was fox's decison yada yada, UFC needed to press for that extra 30 minutes and get that fight on the air.
And for this fox card, why in god's name would they choose davis vs rashad to headline the fox show when they could have had either diaz vs condit or edgar vs henderson. despite how exciting and awesome the fight will be, diaz might be a little too rough around the edges for fox, so specifically edgar vs henderson was PERFECT for this show. its probably not going to do that many buys to begin with so they arent losing out money on a PPV, its extremely exciting, and even though neither guy has a lot of star power, they could have piggy backed on chael/bisping. They definitely should have set up this card as edgar/henderson+chael/bisping to begin with. Would have similar hype, a title fight, but would have left fans with a much better taste in their mouths.
davis/rashad was an extremely relevant fight that set up a title shot. but for fucks sake, is this the fight we want to show the largest number of viewers? send those bloody wrestlers off to japan instead of some exciting lightweights that could steal the hearts of 5 million viewers.
this is the second time the ufc has had the chance to get ben henderson on a fox show and failed. I just hope for the 3rd show they choose some really good exciting fights because I feel like an idiot every time I suggest my casual mma watching friends to see a show and it sucks.

^ Nate Diaz vs. Jim Miller (Lightweight) & John Dodson vs. Darren Uyenoyama (Flyweight), are scheduled for UFC on FOX 3 in early May.
Those 2 fights will be exciting for TV. There's 6 events before the UFC on FOX 3 card, so I don't think they will add anyone else just yet.

Yea while I don't feel super excited for the lighter weight classes for the most part (like most "causal" fans) Henderson is so much more exciting then Rashad.
The only entertaining thing Rashad has done the last few years is getting knocked silly by Machida (I so want a rematch).
UFC 143 can't disappoint though. The prelims are very so-so but the main card (except the Ed Herman fight) looks sooo good.
