<img src="http://admins.liquidpoker.net/staff/Defrag/eastgate_retires.jpg" align="right" style="margin:5px; border:1px solid black;">When he became the youngest world champion in 2008 a dream came true. Over 9 million dollar was added to his bankroll and he could do whatever he wanted. While poker seemed to be the thing he wanted to do, it looks like things changed since Peter Eastgate announced he is taking a break from poker, aiming for a more relaxed lifestyle.
Being amongst the poker elite is not easy, as it demands exercise, preparations and it can be mentally exhausting. After years of hard work, playing the biggest poker tournaments all over the world, the 24-year-old Peter Eastgate decided that he does not have the motivation to continue playing professionally at this time.
He released the following statement regarding his break:
"When I started playing poker for a living, it was never my goal to spend the rest of my life as a professional poker player.
My goal was to become financially independent. I achieved that by winning the WSOP Main Event in 2008. The period following has taken me on a worldwide tour, where I have seen some amazing places and met many new people; it has been a great experience.
In the 20 months following my WSOP win, I feel that I have lost my motivation for playing high level poker along the way and I have decided that now is the time to find out what I want to do with the rest of my life. What this will be, I do not yet know.
I have decided to take a break from live tournament poker, and try to focus on Peter Eastgate, the person. I want to thank PokerStars, my friends and family for their support over the last 20 months and for their support in my decision to take a break from poker."

when u boost your BR by $9M you obviously dont feel the need to grind every day and win more, and the money you do win its a very very small % of ur total BR so it doesnt feel that good i guess, i dont know i mean, if he wins a buyin at nl20k, that is only 0.22% of the $9M he already won
I would do the same if I won $9M to be honest, you can still play poker whenever you feel like it and dont ever have money problems again, unless you are an idiot from the UK that spends the money on gambling, hookers and drugs in a couple of years |

When you win the WSOP some big pokersite will come along and will give you 200k worth of freerolls and probably another 200k salary for just wearing their patch (low estimates). Would you really say no to traveling the world freerolling tourneys to make a name for yourself while receiving a sick nice salary on the side? I'm by no means in love with poker but that just seems too good of an opportunity 9m or not. If you don't do it btw you will not get sponsored again 3 years later just because you won the main event. You will lose the opportunity. |
