Good results from LPers are popping up everywhere in the poker world! We just got another sick result at the live tables, as our fellow Corwin “[vital]Myth” Cole, one of the very best players and posters of this forum, took down the $2,000 No Limit Hold’em Event of the Festa al Lago Classic, a series of tournaments that is taking place at the Bellagio, in Las Vegas! Myth overcame a field of 112 players and a strong final table in order to win the title and earn the first prize worth of $73,875. There were also some known online faces at the tournament, such as Bigriskky, lilholdem and last, but not least, our own Evan “FrinkX” McNiff.
According to Myth, even though there were not many sick players, the field was very competent. During his run, Myth has also eliminated the most known player of the field, Men “the Master” Nguyen, owner of six WSOP bracelets. In the final table, apart from Myth, three names stood out above the others: Scott Sitron, who was one of the final tablists, along with Myth, of the event 52 on the WSOP, Ryan Young, who owns one WSOP bracelet, and the polemic Raymond 25% floating Davis, who is so good that he can take position out of his game. Out of the four, Sitron was the first to be eliminated. The decisive hand of the evening happened when the table was three handed, with Davis, Young and Myth alive. The blinds were 3,000/6,000, Myth raised on the button with a pair of Eights to 16,000, Young 3betted to 45,000 from the SB, Raymond folds, Myth shoves and Young calls and turn up QQ. The flop is a rainbow J82, turn and river bricked off. After that hand Myth held around 4/5 of the chips in play and was the absolute favourite to take the whole thing down.
At that point, Davis was a small stack and was folding so much that Myth decided to raise him from the button with T4o. Davis called and showed JJ. The board was AJQ, K, 5, what gave Myth a straight and eliminated Davis. Myth started the heads-up against Ryan Young with a 4 to 1 chip lead. He also steadily chipped up during around 45 minutes, until he got KK and pushed from the button, while Young called with AT. The board was , and , meaning Young was eliminated and Myth had won his first important live tournament.
This victory makes 2008 an even better year for Myth. It has been some kind of a breakthrough year where the live tournament results started to show up. Congratulations Myth, and good luck on the rest of the series!
