WSOP Rule Changes for 2008!

Hello folks! Some of might you have heard about this, some of you might have not, but needless to say that as the Summer is drawing near and the annual World Series of Poker is yet another day closer to crowning new champions and creating new legends. A lot of Liquid Poker members will be attending this huge tournament marathon so it only seemed appropriate to notify these players (and others as well) of some of the changed rules at the World Series.

I won't go into all the recent changes, but I'll pick out a few that are certainly of particular interest to our players. The first one being a new, more strict, code of conduct. The rule number 36 states: "Excessive celebration through extended theatrics, inappropriate behavior, or physical actions, gestures, or conduct may be subject to penalty. Any player that engages a member of the tournament staff during the celebration or utilizes any property of Harrah’s will be penalized in accordance with Rules No. 31 and/or 51. Harrah’s property includes but is not limited to chairs, tournament tables, and stanchions." It's needless to point out that there are players amongst us who this probably affects a great deal!

Also, last year, there was a show one card, show both cards type of rule, which has now been removed and players may choose to show only one card, but only after the hand is over. This is the sort of rule that might prove out useful to know. Also, the clock cannot be called until at least three minutes have passed, after which the player with the decision will have one minute time to act or his/her hand is declared dead.

As a nifty, certainly useful notice, on the pot-sizes is that even though players have the right to inquire for the size of the pot, instead of doing the calculations, the dealers are only expected to spread the pot so that it is easily countable instead of count it themselves.

Of course cell phones and other electronical devices capable of sending SMS, connecting to the internet or having other communicational features aren't allowed at the tables. The rule states that to use such device, the player must be at least one table length away from the table.

These weren't all the changes made to the rules, but they were definitely ones that'll be useful to know for those playing in the tournament. The World Series of Poker 2008 begins in very late May and we're hoping to get more information on people who are planning on attending these events for covering their upcoming success! Cheers!

i think something important to be mentioned is that this year the wsop satellites if you win.. the money is given to you to do as you please and not mandatory to buy main event seat

I think the Rainkhan rule as it will now be known makes for boring tv. Who just wants to see a bunch of quiet statues plays with no emotion or excitement? I want to see the Jerry Yangs pray to god and the Rainkhans do some dancing (and bulldozing). Next year they will add that players may not say a negative word about anything regarding WSOP or any players otherwise known as the Hellmuth Act of 2008.

Altho, Jerry praying for god was annoying as hell (more or less pun intended). The fact that the almighty god gave some fat asian dood his 1000 wishes was just ridiculous - they're supposed to be Buddhist anyway. I'm saying 1000, because that's how many it required to outdraw so many times!!

The reason people watch live TV poker is for those things banned. Otherwise we could just watch people play online games, alot less fun.

I don't watch live TV poker to see Rainkhan doing his stupid dances or w/e, yea it makes it more funny & stuff but thats not why I watch it, thats retarted.
