Dario Sammartino is without the doubt the man that the everyone is speaking most about at the WSOP Main Event final table at the moment - he survived illness and a very controversial hand to stay in the fight for the $10million first prize.
“I took so much medication but all I wanted to do was go to bed. My stomach, my throat, my head, everything was hurting and my temperature was very high,” he explained in an interview this week, admitting that had it been any other tournament he would simply have withdrawn.
With 8569 players this is the second-biggest ever Main Event, the remaining nine all guaranteed at least $1million when they return to play.
With 11 players left and 2 left for the final table Sammartino asked dealer how much a player on all-in has chips and dealer told him 17mln. He made the call for 20bb, but it turned out there was roughly around 5mln more in players stack and he lost the hand. THe higher ups of the tournament were called and the action was decided to stay in the place.
However how the communication was handled caused a lot of discussion in the poker world:
Tristan Wade: "The disrespect towards Dario Sammartino after the ruling was sick to see. Enforcing the rules is fine. Telling a player that they would've made the same decision, while facing a large bet (with more info), in the WORLDS BIGGEST POKER TOURNAMENT, is disgusting.'

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen
