Sergio Aido went from the shortest stack to become the 2019 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo®Casino European Poker Tour €100,000 Super High Roller champion. Aido scooped the prestigious title along with €1,589,190, the biggest prize of his career. He beat a stacked 52-entry contest to claim his first Super High Roller victory and the largest slice of the €5,045,040 prize pool.

Aido possessed only seven big blinds when the nine-handed final day started, two eliminations away from paid places. He would, however, remain the last man standing after just four hours, having perfected "guión soñado", a dreamed script.

With shallow stacks and huge prizes at stake, the intensity of the final day was imminent. On the very first hand of the day, Luc Greenwood lost his stack to Koray Aldemir to bring the Super High Roller on the stone bubble.

However, Aldemir would also have to leave the tournament empty-handed. He faced off against Daniel Dvoress who held overcards to Aldemir's nines, and a heartbreaking ace on the river sent the German player to the rail while the remaining players locked up €264,860 each.

In the meantime, Aido had scored to back-to-back doubles, setting a base camp to what would be his remarkable rise to the top. Aido's hot run continued after the bubble as he eliminated Wiktor Malinowski and Charlie Carrel in seventh and sixth places, respectively.

A short intermezzo allowed Jesus Cortes to bust Mikita Badziakouski in fifth place, but the following eliminations were all provided by Aido again. Aido capitalized on a tremendous card distribution, peeling kings in the right moments against both Canadian players at the table. The first saw Daniel Dvoress bow out in fourth place, and the defending champion Sam Greenwood met the same fate shortly afterwards.

The Spanish heads up was heavily lopsided with Aido holding nearly a five-to-one lead. Aido wasted no time before finishing his final opponent off. Cortes, who had returned to the felt at PCA 2019 after a six-year hiatus, impressed with another excellent performance worth €1,147,750.

Aido's debut Super High Roller victory helped the 30-year-old eclipse $10 million in live tournament winnings. Aido, who splits his residence between London and Macau, sits in third place on the Spanish all-time money list, trailing only Adrian Mateos and Carlos Mortensen.
