Three poker players spent over ten hours playing for the victory in the Main Event at World Series of Poker 2018. Initially the chip leader was Tony Miles.
Poker player had 238,900,000 in the stack. It meant 149 blinds. A bit less, 128,700,000, 80 blinds belonged to John Cynn. Third player was Michael Dyer. This poker player had 26,200,000, about 16 big blinds only.
Three first hands were all-ins. Dyer went all-in twice but was not called by anybody. He followed with a few more plays like that and finally got a call!
Tony Miles raised to 4,000,000 from the button. Dyer went all-in for several blinds in the SB. Miles decided for a call with his AJ. Dyer showed AT. The flop came Q53. Turn was J. Miles caught a pair of jacks, the river brought Q.
Michael Dyer hit the rail in the third spot and collected $3,750,000.
Final play began with almost identical stacks. Tony Miles held 198,400,000. John Cynn on the other hand 195,400,000.
Miles took the lead, but he lost it afterwards. Cynn outplayed his rival, but Miles quickly made up for the mistakes. Cynn played an interesting re-raise with 74 off and JQJ board.
Three big hands made Cynn take 2:1 lead! Then he raised from the button, and Miles called. the flop came J43. Miles check-called 4.5 million. Turn was 3. Miles checked. Cynn bet. His opponent re-raised for 20 million. Cynn called again and when the river brought K, Miles went all-in for 95.3 million!
Miles was holding 75 and made a great bluff. Cynn had a chance to catch his opponent bluffing, but he was only holding 64 so he folded.
Later on Twitter Phil Galfond made a comment:
– Cynn almost felt that, but it was a very difficult call. No one can say that was a bad fold.
After hand number 400 the table broke a record as it was the longest HU since Chris Moneymaker's win. Tull now the record was 2012 when Greg Merson won the champion title after hand number 399.
Cynn was dominating and Miles was slowly going down to 20 big blinds, looking for a spot to double up.
Finally Cynn raised to 9 millions. Tony Miles re-raised to 34. Cynn called and the flop came KK5. Miles bet 32 million. Rival called him. Turn was 8. Miles went all-in for 114 million (~ 25 blinds). Cynn thought for a minute and called.
