Vanessa Selbst “retired from poker” at the beginning of the year, but she hasn't quit the game completely it seems. Currently she is in Las Vegas, where she joined one tournament and now gets ready to ply the Main Event.
Selbst announced her Las Vegas comeback in a post published on Twitter: I am heading to WSOP this weekend and then will play the Main Event. The government turned a blind eye to the problem of immigrants, so I will donate 50% of my winnings and I am asking you to match it. Every amount counts in this critical time.
Poker player then joined the $10,000 Limit 2-7 Lowball Triple Draw Championship, where she was eliminated before the paid places. Selbst, who has 11.8 million dollars won in events, will also participate in the Main Event. The tournament starts on Monday, July 2nd.
It seems one of the best female poker players is trying to use her money and fame to help immigrants in need, a political case. Of course the community may be a bit divided on this one and her post raised a controversy on Twitter.
Tweet by Selbst started a discussion in which some say she should not mix her political stand with poker. One person said it would be funny if Selbst got eliminated from the ME by an illegal immigrant.
Selbst is the only woman who managed to get to the top of Global Poker Index (GPI) leaderboard. As the first woman in history she also took part in a Super High Roller. It was back during PCA 2014, when Selbst was third in a $100,000 event, for which she cashed $760,640. Her biggest win ($1,300,000) came from the Main Event in Partouche Poker Tour 2010 back in Cannes.
