Doug Polk is known as a player who is not afraid to speak his mind. This time he picked on players who promise to come to tournaments and then do not show up. One of them is Matt Berkey.

It all started from a few tweets and a short video posted on Facebook. Polk said he was dissapointed by some players as they were no show at the stream from The Bicycle Casino.

Doug pointed out in his video that situations like that are unforgiveable. When a famous poker player announces that he's gonna play an event and then says “screw it” the organisers lose their reputation and viewers are simply dissapointed.

Polk notices three things that are bad for poker here:

Viewers of such streams feel cheated and very often they decide not to watch the live feed again as they don't want to waste time,
High stakes games are not so easy to organise in the first place. Sometimes when one guy changes his mind the other start thinking the same and the game ic occasionally even cancelled ,
Players lose their money as they pay for the flights themselves.
Polk attacked personally Matt Berkey, one of the players who cancelled their participation in the cash game in The Bicycle Casino.

What Matt Berkey has to say to all that?
Berkey used his Twitter to explain himself. As he said he hadn't had enough of a bankroll to play 200$/400$.

I had lost about $110,000 after two sessions at $25/$50… which turned out to be $25/$50/$100/$200 plus ante. Then I just didn' have enough money to keep playing $200/$400.

Berkey also commented on the line-up in The Bicycle that changes quite fast.

At the beginning there were supposed to be some businessman there. Finally only sharks came to the event [the cash game at The Bike included among others Doug Polk, Dan Cates, Ryan Fee and Joey Ingram]. I get that. This is the high stakes world, and I enjoy playing with these guys. Unfortunately I don't plan to play in such a tough game with a bankroll that is less than 100 big blinds.

some conversations are just -EV

if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhAN

I think it's a legit complaint if you travel somewhere to play in a game and people back out at the last second and kill the game. I would be annoyed too. But let's not pretend Doug Polk is bitching about this because he is concerned that it's "bad for poker" or that stream viewers will be upset. He's bitching because he had to play in a harder lineup and it personally affected him. Saying it's bad for poker is just a way to get the average joe on his side when really it's inconsequential to the average Joe.
