Australian poker pro player, David Eldar proved he's got some maths and linguistic skills. Dave was crowned the new World Scrabble Champion at an event that took place in London at the end of August.

Eldar, who lives in Great Britain, won $11,000 for his efforts at the Mind Sports International (MSI) World Championships. He defeated a field of players from 26 countries to take home the champion title. He has more than $200,000 in lifetime tournament poker earnings too, but his earnings on the internet are what is truly impressive about his poker results.

Eldar is only 27 years old, but he is up nearly $1.7 million playing high stakes cash games on PokerStars, according to tracking website HighstakesDB. He mostly plays pot-limit Omaha. He’s also about $1.6 million up on Full Tilt, though playing primarily no-limit hold’em there.

He’s played under the screen names “POKERBLUFFS” and “Deldar18”, per HighstakesDB. Eldar is still active to this day on PS. The largest pot of his career was in 2009 when he got a $400,000 hand with AA against Patrik Antonius’ A-K.

Before his success in the biggest online games in the world, Eldar reportedly was playing $10-$20 no-limit hold’em, which is considered mid-stakes and he was really successful there, like a few million successful.

As for Scrabble news.com.au reports that at the end of the tournament Eldar beat Sri Lankan player Harshan Lamabadusurilya 3-0. He placed the word “carrels” (which means a cubicle desk) to score 74 points and the prestigious champion title. Eldar is the second highest Scrabble rating player in the world now, according to the WESPA Rankings.

He began playing Scrabble about 14 years ago and was already a youth champion back in year 2006.
