The worlds biggest prop-bet lover, poker entusiasth, and a billionaire, Bill Perkins made the bet against Joe "ChicagoJoey/Joeingram1" Ingram that he can't swim one mile in the ocean. Doesn't seem like much, but to this time Joe have never learned how to swim.
Ingram has until the end of September and stands to win $15,000 against his own $5,000 after Perkins gave him odds of 3:1.
Joe, who is seen by his twitter name "Joey Phelps" making fun of the bet, shared this news on twitter:
The prop-bet was announced on Joe's podcast where Perkins was making his third appearance. The discussion turned to Perkins upcoming "Streamboat 2" poker stream, where he will be joined once again by Jaime and Matt Staples, Jeff Gross, and Kevin Martin at his yacht in the Caribbean to live stream some poker, record some prop-bets etc.
The discussion passed about ongoing bet Perkins made with the Staples brothers (305 lb Jaime and 134 lb Matt have to get within 1 lb of each other within a year - they are currently halfway there with Jaime having dropped 50lb and Matt being on +35lb), Perkins invited Joey down to hang out with them on the boat. Joe remarked that he wouldn't be "gettin' on no boat" and revealilng that he couldn't swim which almost instantly trigger Perkin's girlfriend to "sounds like a bet". And it was on.
The hedge fund boss offered odds of 3:1 on $5k if Joe could swim one mile in the ocean.

If he learns to switch between breaststroke and backstroke effectively in order to relax different types of muscles he is going to do it with no problem. But relaying only on one style is going to be really hard. And we can put freestyle and butterfly out of the picture since one month is not enough for these to learn and succeed. So, it really depends whether he gets this advice from his swimming coach. An interesting bet for sure. |

Super easy
He can do that without a break, even if he swims like a dog
I did that distance when I was at my fattest
Its a little more than 32 times back and forth in a normal swimming pool |

Yeah this is a super easy bet. You can just do breast stroke and glide quite a ways while saving energy. It would be harder if you had to do it freestyle or if there was a time limit. I remember when I used to swim a lot I felt like I could do a breast stroke forever. Once you get in a good rhythm it is very relaxing. |

Prop bet is for swimming in the ocean, not in a regular pool. Difference is big. |

Yeah it can be much more tiring but the flotation is higher so the backstroke is particularly easy |

Yea, I think this all comes down to if he can backstroke. 1 mile backstroke should be quite do able even for someone that isn't a strong swimmer, but is in good shape |

Can any of you backstroke advocates swim at all? Its super easy.
This is more about technique than being strong.
Hey Bill if you come on the show it would be cool if we did a propbet... so i can get maximum views and insert Baals Revolver quote from the other thread. You are just being stringed along.
Can i bet on this not being interesting? |

well he'll be dealing with the current, waves, and probably cold water. It wont be easy but as long as he can learn to float so he can take breaks. The jellyfish might make it difficult once his legs and arms go numb from their stingers. Thats after the burning sensation wears off of course. You hear that joey? |

The waves can fuck him up. Any sort of breathing difficulties will result in panic and loss in energy. He needs to spend 2 weeks with a coach in the swimming pool doing backstroke or whatever is easiest, then 2 weeks of practice in the ocean. |
