Jaime Staples, who is currently sitting at weight prop bet can take some motivation from another poker pro, 36 year old Walter Fisher from New York. Fisher, who was just broke, managed to win $1,000,000 after he successfully reduced his % bodyfat from 33% to just 8.8% in just six months.
The bet started in December, when Fisher weighed 245 pounds and was on a losing streak after blowing a $97,000 blackjack win in less than a month and then going in with another $100,000 in debt. Fisher told New York Post, “I ordered double veal parms to the poker table; I ate full pizzas, I’d lose a bundle at blackjack and eat three or four superrich single-serving chocolate cakes. They had to have [had] more than 1,000 calories each. It was disastrous.”
Fisher then accepted a $100,000 bet with a gambling acquaintance betting that he couldn't get his bodyfat under 10% in 6 months. To cover his $100k of the bet Fisher reached out to Dan Bilzerian and Bill Perkins for backing and the duo was happy to oblige. Before long there was $1m in wagers on the table, with Fisher standing to pick up over $500k himself if he managed to do the impossible.
Fisher didn't just win the bet, but he transformed completely by losing 70 pounds and dropping to just 8.88% bodyfat.
He also had solid help, with trainer Chris DiVecchio and sports-medicine nutritionist Phil Goglia, who has worked with the liked of Christian Bale and Matthew McConaughey. Apparently, after getting down to 13.5% in just 3 months, Fisher made a $50k side-bet that he'd get there in 4 months but ended up failing. This is when Goglia was brought in and immediately highlighted the problem - that Fisher wasn't eating enough: “Walter was taking in just 1,100 calories — not enough to burn caloric heat. He was burning muscle when he should have been burning fat.”
After changing his diet, FIsher soon fell under 10% bodyfat and ended up walking away with $500k.

bilzarian/perkins is a prop bet fish by the looks of it, this doesn't seem too hard if the incentive is 500k. Didn't christian bale just eat coffee and apples? |

he went from fatass in debt to muscular and 500k in 6 months, nice for him.
Its disastrous to bet against someone on that kind of thing when you are giving them such a massive incentive |

They are fish
and they know it
Perkins fully accepts it that this is his hobby.
I think it's damn awesome that they are transforming people's lives like this, it's entertainment for Perkins just like poker and makes a difference not just for the guys doing the props but for people seeing it's possible |

you could transform like 10,000 peoples lives by giving them $100 each in a poor country if you really wanna be efficient about it. I mean, i guess he is doing here it but in a really expensive, inefficient way, and its kinda crazy to pay someone 500k to lose weight when they could just do it for free and a lot of internal motivation. |

I could see losing the fat through simple starvation but the dude looks ripped. Combo of steroids? I know Bilzarian is into HGH, not entirely natural but not as bad as roids per se. |

Some forms of aid haven't helped so that means all forms of foreign aid can't possibly help. Because logic. Also logic: we shouldn't consider helping because the problem hasn't been solved already. Solid stuff. |
