The $25,000 High Roller event at the 2017 Aussie Millions proved in the past to be a very successful event, with many players interested - but the two Super High Roller events failed to attract any attention at all.
After the $100,000 Challenge event attracted only 18 players this year, the Crown Casino decided to cancel the $250,000 Challenge. According to the Crown Casino owners, the lack of recreational players at the Super High Roller level was the biggest reason for the low number of players this year.
The event was however usually packed with professionals, like Phil Ivey (who has won the $250K Challenge three times), Patrik Antonius, Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier regularly, but this year - they were absent as well.
Instead of that, casino decided to add a $50,000 buy-in No Limit Holdem Shot Clock Six-Max event to the schedule to replace the $250,000 Challenge. Unfortunately, that event was also a complete failure, as only 6 people registered in it. The event was won by Mikita Badziakouski from Belarus for A$176,400.
It remains to be seen, was 2016 the last year for Aussie Millions’ $250,000 Challenge.
