After few days, when almost 20% of the battle between poker players and artificial AI is done, we have official results - and it's getting terrifying. Human side is getting completely destroyed.
The first day of action on Wednesday saw Jason “PremiumWhey” Les, Dong “Donger Kim” Kim, Daniel “Dougiedan678” McAulay and Jimmy “ForTheSwaRMm” Chou fall into a 75,000 chip hole against the machine called Libratus. The blinds are 50-100.
Thursday was more of the same for the humans, as the machine extended its lead to 150,000 chips. The 20-day contest will have 120,000 hands. Through Thursday, nearly 9,000 had been played. Over few next day the machine started winning less, but players are still losing even more. Now with 20% of the challenge done, you can see the results below.
Here are the results:
“I’m playing nothing like I normally do, I’m trying to beat the bot,” Les said during a session. When asked whether he was happy he was “contributing to science,” Les said he was “trying to get paid.” The high-stakes poker pro said he didn’t have any side action on the match.
The humans each play two tables against the machine for about eight hours each day, and the results are combined to give an overall “Brains vs. AI” score. The poker players stand to each win $50,000 if they beat the machine. They aren’t risking any of their own money.
Before the match, betting sites considered Libratus a definitive underdog in the contest, with odds varying between 4-to-1 and 5-to-1.
Each battle is live streamed on Twitch, you can find them under those links:

Too bad I didn't know that it was possible to bet on this before it started. Would definitely took the AI side with 4-to-1 odds. |

-7bb/100 isn't getting 'destroyed' in the view of the scientific community since last year the humans won for 9bb/100 and it was declared a statistical tie. |

by the time you posted this it was 50k for the AI, as todays game was finished, Chou apparently made a pretty sick call on the river where it went something like
Chou opens 2.5bb pre 97o, AI flast
AI donks 1/2 pot flop 456double suit , Chou flats
Turn is an 8x, AI bets 1/4 Chou raises 2x pot , AI calls
River is 9 completing the flush and AI bets 2x pot , Chou calls ( no flush) , AI turned 88 into a bluff which is pretty fucking sick |

The A.I seems to donk bet a lot. sometimes it just donk leads 5x the pot then barrels off 9x the pot with a bluff. Honestly if this thing sat with most regs at HU i think they would assume it was a crazy fish. |

last year was 80k hand sample size. so a bigger sample size this year, so perhaps -7bb/100 will be outside of the 'tie' range on the bell curve. |

Yea they have all 4 been in the top 10 of the power rankings at some point. ForTheSwarm (jimmy) was considered top 3 at a point. |

A top chess program ran by a super computer is indeed stronger than one by ran my home CPU
But still, a top chess program ran by my home CPU would crush the best in the world. Probably the same for poker. |
