Scheinberg family to possibly re-buy PokerStars, exit USA and re-open to all gray markets

According to Pocket Fives co-founder Adam Small, there is a rumor going around saying that Scheinberg family, the creators and founding fathers of PokerStars, is possibly going to re-buy the poker room back from Amaya.

Those rumors were spreading like virus during Global Gaming Expo (G2E) conference that took place at the Sands Expo Center back in Las Vegas. G2E is one of the major events of the year for the online gaming industry and attracts most of the well-known faces behind the online poker businesses.
According to a public conversation that happened on Twitter few days ago, one of the biggest topics of discussion at G2E was regarding the possibility that the Scheinberg family – the original founders and fathers of PokerStars – were intending to buy back the world´s largest online poker site from Amaya Inc., to whom they sold it to in 2014.

If the buy-back happens, there is no way to know what kind of changes implemented by Amaya would be rolled back by the Scheinbergs. Scheinbergs always had a very different vision of PokerStars than their current owner - during their era PokerStars was always considered "the place to be for every player", where the company would put players over shareholders first.

One important thing to consider is that according to rumors, if the Scheinbergs buy back PokerStars, they plan to pull out from legally operating in USA and open to all gray markets instead again. With Amaya in charge, there is a huge chance that after pulling from number of markets last year, PokerStars will soon have to pull from Polish, Canadian, German and Russian markets in the near future as well. Under ownership of Scheinbergs family - that would be highly unlikely.

Do u remember the state of the poker before BF, before whole online poker boom and before pokerstars became the biggest online poker site in the world. The way how they became the biggest was because they offered their services outside of americas laws for countries where they legaly couldnt. Thats what gray markets mean, just markets where offering gambling services is in a gray zone with US regulations and laws. Atleast that's how I remember it. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Which in my opinion is huge af, since countries which can't play on stars until today have really limited experience with online poker or poker at all. If this goes through we are about to witness possibly the next poker boom with tons of new "fun" poker players. :-)

+ there is one more unknown for ex owners of PS, either they realized that they can make much more money because as we have seen Amaya made a lot of changes and the player pool did not change. So they might be thinking "hey, lets make some money"
Or they are just mad af cos how amaya fucked their own "child".

Gray markets = unregulated markets mostly.

Poland is a perfect example. We have a dead law that in theory prohibits people playing online poker, however current law is not in compliance with imperative laws of European Union, hence even if anybody would be caught red handed playing online there is no way to prosecute and put any penalty on such person.

Do they gray markets include any major markets? How does the US fare in all of this given we're still beholden to the UIGEA which several companies continue to ignore with impunity?

There's just no way the DOJ will let Pokerstars exit as a fully legit site (in New Jersey), and then re-enter as something like Carbon Poker or ACR. That would actually be terrible for the unregulated US sites since it would basically force the DOJ to go after all of them.

Those Jewish men must really be flipping their bread fast and stacking cash if they are willing to buy back stars anywhere near where it sold

Greedy but spineless owners couldn't do it by themselves so they hire a "buyer" to break up all the perks and do all the other stuff for them. Once everything's fine just "rebuy" the damn thing. It's been done countless times in business just to streamline and clean everything they find that needs fixing without causing hostility from their customers. Well played haha

Not having a poker boom isnt because PS sux balls, its cause the market is shattered and unless " a black swan" happens , nothing will change. Other than a bunch of rich ppl swapping through assets for fun of course.

I think the move was because they wanted to have a shot at reentering the US market. They couldnt do that while the Shceinbergs run the show. Now that they see it aint happening they qant to revert to how things were.

i don't believe diligence is contained in big noses and curly hair or laziness is contained in foreskins

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen
