Russia is continueing its campaign against illegal online gambling operators - now the fight has reached social networks. It applies to both foreign and domestic ones.
For months now, Russian telecom watchdog company Roskomnadzor has been adding hundreds of unauthorized online gambling domains to its online blacklist on a weekly basis, preparing for the big hit. In August, Roskomnadzor also began blacklisting social media accounts belonging to online gambling websites and operators.
New strategy that aims to enforce prohibitions on promoting or facilitating online gambling games came this month, when 3 betting websites found their Twitter accounts suspended for no reason.
Roskomnadzor has now formally warned the likes of Facebook, Twitter and Russian social media network VKontakte to suspend accounts that allegedly broke the rules. VKontake alone blocked around 250 accounts linked to over 40 companies. |
