Pretty good day.
  napoleono, Jan 13 2014

+35 dollars from KOs in the first tourney, which I finished 5th.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/1026945

After this I flopped 2 overs+SD, but didnt get it in for some reason (im dumb) and ofc didnt hit any of my outs and he got ahead. Then got in my last 7 bbs with QJs into QQ. Oh well, there it goes a 50$ SNG. Had like an insane amount of final 2 tables on 888 the last couple of days, hopefully will start to ship some asap.

Oh, and another MTT on stars, got 35th or so for another 3x,xx$. It was an 11$ which i misregged cause the list does not update, you have to scroll up and down.

Year end blog
  napoleono, Jan 01 2014

It's been one hell of a year!

At the start of 2013, it has been only a couple of months since I moved to the capital of Romania, Bucharest, to be employed for the first time and do a masters programme. Had 3 months of experience and the auditing season just begun. Its been some of the hardest months of my life till now, working 55-60 hours/week (I think I've even blogged about it at one point), then taking courses in the weekend and having exams every 3 weeks. Everything went okayish in the end and managed to get a decent average at uni, top 3 out of 35, so this year I don't have to pay tuition (yay 1.5k euros saved). Then summer came around and we've been preparing for the wedding, while working semi-light - I was content at how things were going at this point of the year. However, the nasty surgery intervened, so I had some stress just a couple days before the wedding. Looking back at it, it was the perfect moment to get it out, as I hadn't had any problems ever since, I can eat, drink anything without having to worry about feeling super sick and not being able to sleep at night.

Autumn came around and having more free time, got me back into poker again - but this time I've started playing MTTs and studying quite some. I can finally say I had my first year of poker where I ended up in the green. Have played quite a lot, but the lack of a big score cut back my motivation, but I still play every now and then. I figure I should learn much more and hopefully I can put more effort into this in the new year.

I have some cash played at PS and FTP as well, up around 50-80 bucks. I've played whenever a spotted a huge spewer at the MTTs and followed him to cash tables (bumhunting, I guess?). I also luckboxed a huge 900 bb pot against a PS pro in a zoom promo, which brought me 130$. All in all a pretty good year. I started with a 15$ deposit in October and grinded it up to 1100 at max, atm sitting around 920 - for the last month it's been quite a rollercoaster ride, ups and downs, but still fun.

Also I've been to my first ever LAN event, dreamhack bucharest - so much more fun than expected!

Too bad for these 2 pals in the pic, but the other were so goddamn busy all the time - too much awesomeness for 1 pic though (Grubby and Day9):

Marriage is effing awesome - its just a whole another level when you find THAT girl. I hope all of you can experience this feeling one day.

My goals for 2014 is to have an even better year than this one - it will be REAL hard as some of my coworkers left the company, so we are less people for almost the same amount of work, also I'm finishing my masters degree so I have to prepare a graduation paper till July, but hopefully all will be OK and will get over it. As for poker, I will have less time in the first half of the year because of the above mentioned reasons, but I really hope I'll manage to skill-up my play and finally ship that 1k+ tourney.

Thanks guys for being awesome, I feel like during 2013, I've managed to somewhat become a part of this community, even if it's not a numerous one, but still with mostly awesome people, whose success gives me motivation to try harder. Special mention goes to Mortensen for staking me for some tourneys above my bankroll, hopefully we will be back even stronger in 2014!

Have a super awesome year guys and keep crushing!

wtf ftp
  napoleono, Dec 23 2013

I made a transfer with Loco, my PP for his FTP. Now I would have liked to withdraw the money, but seemingly I can't, cause I am trying to withdraw money for others. OK. I ask them how many times do I have to play through the money for it to be considered mine and they say that I can only use that money for playing on the tables, cause FTP is not a financial institution. WTF? Ok, I understood that from the first mail, but will that amount always be blocked on my account? What if I never lose that amount and build up a 10k BR, will I still not be able to withdraw that 100 bucks? Sometimes I really hate these robotic responses they give, without giving a single thought to what the client actually asked for.

Share your thoughts please. Have you ever experienced such thing? WTF do they do with someone who is constantly selling shares of tourneys and transferring back and forth big amounts of money? Can they not withdraw it?

Poker books for mental aspects
  napoleono, Nov 22 2013

Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend me some books which are talking about the mental aspects? Usually I don't tilt, but still have some moments, when I just can't close the client, even though I know I should or I'm going all-in just to try to run-up a big stack, even if I know it is -EV, but after a couple of beats, I don't have the patience to grind it up once more (the same applies after I make a deep run, I just don't feel like playing after that anymore, no matter if I win or lose). What do you do in the middle of an MTT session if u feel like tilt is taking over?

Want to improve my mental abilities and to develop an iron-will. Lately work has been pretty easy, with not many things to do and I just waste time, procrastinating. This is something I definitely want to get rid of, but it's effing hard. Another aspect I observed, that instead of cherishing the success of others, I'm rather jelly - I quickly ward off this feeling, but the first emotion I feel is definitely negative. This is another thing I hate about myself. So, if you have any advice, books or w/e, would be greatly appreciated.

Charity?
  napoleono, Nov 11 2013

Hey guys, hope all of you are doing well. I know for a fact that poker players like to donate for charity and what would be a better period for that, if not the Christmas holidays? So I thought we should be raising some funds and do something cool with it.

Yea, as you guess I already have in my mind something. I have a somewhat close relative (his father and my grandma were siblings), whose wife had been diagnosed with a brain tumor in early June. For a couple of weeks the husband moved to my place in Bucharest, while his wife was treated in the most performant hospital in Romania. The good news is, she is still alive, the bad is that she had a brain seizure a day after the 6 hour operation. Ever since she was operated once more with an aggravated pneumonia and spent the last 4 and a half months in the hospital, like 60 km away from the village they are from. Her husband was beside her almost every day (no extra beds in the hospital, so he was making the round trip every other day), sleeping on chairs or not sleeping at all. Finally 2 weeks ago, they would let her go home, but as a consequence of the seizure, her right side is immobile. And chances are she will never ever get back on feet. Needless to say, the husband quit his job and they have a low income. My parents are helping a lot, by cooking, driving them around, buying food, etc., and just the other day my dad told me, that their well, from which they are getting the water (living in rural area, makes you not having tap-water, dunno how's that in your country, but thats the case for the majority of the small villages of < 1000 inhabitants, here in Romania), will most probably shrink very soon. Currently they are bathing at my parents house. They have 2 sweet girls - one just started college in the nearest town, where a respected national university has a subsidiary(?) and the other one is in 9th grade, I think. So I thought about trying to help this family out by reaching out to you guys and perhaps try to raise the money necessary to fund this action. Also, I will try to buy them a wheelchair, something like this:

http://www.okazii.ro/articole-persoane-cu-dizabilitati/scaune-rotile/carucior-transport-pacienti-moretti-mcb230-a122728230

(the site is the Romanian ebay, you can click on it without fear, I use it almost everyday to search for different things).

So the chair would be something like 280$ and the well is around 200$. They have that pump thingy, that helps to get the water into the house from the well.

I would of course make photos (before, after) and present a receipt of anything that I would use the money (if I get one). I'm putting up 100$ for this. I can accept money on FullTilt, Pokerstars or Paypal.

Depending on the succes of this, we're planning some shoebox action with my wife, near Christmas. Were thinking about the local orphanage and some kids from the school we went to and know about their hard situation.

tldr.
close relative having serious health issues
want to raise ~600$ for a wheelchair and a new well
putting up 100$ myself
further charity near X-mas

Thanks for reading and for consideration,
Take care guys!

Looking for stake AND mentoring.
  napoleono, Oct 19 2013

Some of you may be aware (from the ranting of posting the hands), that I made some deep runs this week in several micro stakes MTT's, namely:

2.2E - 13th out of 766
2.2$ - 47/5757
1.1$ - 22/8957
2.2$ - 39/3585

There were some more in the area of 100-200th position out of a couple K, but those are irrelevant. So what Im looking for is to get some coaching/hand reviews/something along that line, to fare better in these tourneys and do better in the late part as I feel pretty lost and play like a pussy pretty much, thus giving up +EV situations. I REALLY WANT to win a tourney and am willing to work hard for it. I dunno really how staking works, but we could do something like 50/50 of the risk, and 60/40 of profits in my favour. I play only up to 3$ currently, but would like to play some Big 4.4, Hot 5.5 (so up to 5$ at max). But we can figure these out if there is somebody willing to help me.

# of tournies:

Timegraph:

Have skype, will provide anyhing needed. I'm sure we can work out the details, I'm really flexible and looking for this, because of needing that little edge (and also cause I dont want to pay 150-200$ for an hour of coaching - I dont need a real pro to help me through the problems I have)

Thanks,
Much <3
Take care

"Biggest" win
  napoleono, Oct 10 2013

Lately I've been playing some STT SNGs and spamming some satties, with the occasional fun 180 1$ hyper. Been running awful for the whole night, but then I somehow managed to get ITM in one of those hypers and from there on I just killed the tournament. At the start of the final table I was 3/9, but been running super hot after that, like 80% of the flops hit me and the rest of the players were playing scared money (like 2.5 for 9th place, 50 bucks for 1st), and I just put pressure on them constantly. I know it's a nothing for you guys, and TBH even I would have smiled yesterday on a blog like this, but it's a REAL nice feeling.

I'm happy!

Wedding, car and surgery.
  napoleono, Sep 02 2013

So it's been a while since my last update and there were plenty of things going on in the meanwhile.

Surgery

A couple of weeks before the weeding, just as I was planning how and when to ask for a holiday from work, I got terribly sick one Friday morning. I was aware I had some very little stones in my gallblader (sigh, my parents have it, my grandma had it as well) and was feeling pain some nights when I ate too much and too greasy, but didn't think it would hurt this much. So after a quick visit to the emergency of the hospital, it turned out that they weren't that small anymore. The ecographist said that this thing is no joke and even if it was removed yesterday, it would have been too late and I should consult a surgeon ASAP. Before I knew I was in the hospital again and couldn't leave. Monday came around and I had my gallblader removed without any complications. 2 days were pretty rough, cause I could barely move, but when Wednesday came around, as if magic happened, I was suddenly feeling pretty good. So after this I got 2 weeks off from work and all my planning was in vain.

Wedding

I was pretty weak after the surgery, but on the bright side we didn't have that much to prepare as we invited only the close family and some of our best friends - we were around 60 people. It all went smoothly, we had a great time. But due to my post-intervention weakness, we opted not to go on a honeymoon (the doctor advised me not to swim for a couple of weeks, in order not to risk an infection). We stayed with our parents a week, before returning to Bucharest to get back to work.

Car
So now that we are officially together, we thought we could use a car to be able to travel around the country (and to be able to go home whenever we want, as Bucharest is like 250 km away from our home town). My wife is only now getting her driving licence and we didn't want to invest too much money into a car (nor did we have infinite buget for one ). After more than a month of searching, I finally found a Volkswagen Bora which seemed to fill all our wishes. Nothing special though, it's over 10 years old, but it was only 3k, which is pretty decent for what it offers.

We are looking at some possible places to visit as I still have most of my holiday days, because of the 2 week medical leave.

All in all life is good, I could say.

Take care guys! <3
