Investaments
El_Tanque, May 15 2011
I have been fortunate enough to receive a new job while living at home this summer. I will be valeting cars at The Magnolia hotel this summer, in downtown Dallas.
http://www.magnoliahoteldallas.com/dallas.aspx
It's an upscale hotel sitting under the Pegasus in the Dallas skyline. I'm the upscale valet/concierge.
I aim to make some money and invest it in certain areas for about 3 months work before heading back to school.
What I do when I make money is take whatever I need to save for and make envelopes. Currently I'd like a new pair of Oakley's, a refurbished slim PS3 b/c my old one is a piece of shit (also, i'm selling the old one for parts), etc etc.
So far I have...
*EDIT* shit i forgot that I invented something and am trying to save up so I can get a patent/produce my intellectual property. Gotta re-figure the %'s
Savings acct. 30%
Checking acct. 8%
Trip to Vegas 10%
Gas 15%
Oakley's 8% ($280)
ps3 8% ($200)
Invention 10%
That is 87% of my total income being store in some capacity. The other 10% would be daily spending money...
Obviously gas fluctuates so I am hoping to reduce that percentage and maybe put more into savings. Also once I have the money for the oakleys, I would eliminate that envelope, put the money left over into my savings envelope, and change percentages or add another item in.
Thoughts, comments, opinions?
Also, with my MAVS IN THE SEMI-FINALS AND MOST LIKELY FINALS *knock on wood*, you all should come get tickets and stay at the Mag. I'll valet your car for a fat tip obv
I can also get the hookup for many upscale gentlemen's clubs, or regular clubs like Plush. Also hookups at nice steakhouses in the area, etc. We are a full concierge
Great to hear from ya'll.

If anyone wants to follow me on twitter
El_Tanque, May 09 2011
I'm just getting into the whole twitter thing, and 90% of my posts are going to be related to my bleacherreport.com articles, but if you'd like to follow me, that would be kick ass.
I guess search for me as claythomas or @claythomas ...however the fuck you do it. I'm not really a fan of twitter, i like facebook. Search for Clay Thomas. I'm the guy standing under the ALCS sign at the Ballpark in Arlington, wearing a blue nylon pullover thing. haha...
I feel this post was a worthless piece of shit and took up space and pissed someone off (it atleast pissed me off)...
Anywho, hope to see you around!!

Sports Betting
El_Tanque, Apr 10 2011
I haven't been able to put in the volume that I would like to with all the jobs I have. Ultimately, I've started playing HU SNG's, and I definitely have an edge. Most people don't know how to play HU, and I feel like that is my niche.
However, in my quest to make money without doing anything (relatively), I've decided to start on some online sports betting. Is oddsmaker.com a good site? Are there any other sites you suggest?
I feel that being an avid baseball fan gives me an edge. I also think that being a writer gives me somewhat of an inside scoop as I'm always trying to read and learn more about the sport. I understand all of the little things that can affect the outcome of a game.
The system that I want to use is basically a $1-$10 system. Pick the games that I am confident a certain team will win, and judge how confident I am on a scale of 1 to 10, and that would be the bet I would make. I would stay away from games I am not too confident in (for example I don't plan on making $1 bets on a lot of games. Only bet the games that are probably going to be one sided).
Thanks for reading. If you have any advice on what site I could use, let me know!!!

SWEET!!! new job
El_Tanque, Mar 30 2011
Got the job I just applied for. It will be the 4th job that I currently work (the other three are Field Maintainance at the Rec Center, RA in the dorms, Newspaper writer for University newspaper). The fourth and the one that I look forward to doing........SPORTS WRITER FOR BLEACHERREPORT.COM !!!!!!!!!! woohoo! I'm pretty stoked and excited to be writing, specifically about Baseball and my favorite team the Texas Rangers. It ought to be interesting. I'm passionate about baseball and the rangers, so we'll see how it goes.
download help :(
El_Tanque, Mar 23 2011
So I have to work the front desk of the dorms tonight for 8 hours, 2 of which i already worked earlier before lunch. I tried to play FTP earlier in the first two hours of work via the computer in the office. I was able to dl ftp about 2 weeks ago, but now that i have to dl the update, i am being blocked by some kind of admin password firewall device that my boss put on the computer. Why i could dl this 2 weeks ago and not now boggles the mind.
Is there anyway i can download the ftp update and bypass the password?
INspired.

Yes, the I and N were purposely capitalized. I have been inspired, although not in poker, but among other things in my life. I have come to some realizations, and learned some new things about myself, and with that, I want to say that i am IN this for the long haul, I am deep IN this, I am ready; I am IN.
With that being said, it has become apparent that I have separated myself from things I hold dear to me. I am still playing baseball although I have had a huge set back in my career: Ulnar Collateral Ligament Reconstructive Surgery a.k.a. Tommy John Surgery. The date of surgery was May 10 of last year, and the process of rehabilitation can take anywhere from 12 to 18 months or longer. I was on pace to finish in roughly 13 months, when I succumbed to a minor setback: inflammation in my new ligament ):. I became somewhat depressed and pessimistic as my demon would not go away. I felt like I wasn't accepted as part of the team anymore. As my arm struggled, so did my social life and feeling of acceptance by my peers in a linear fashion.
Hope was restored after taking Rx anti-inflammatory, taking a wonderful spring break, and throwing a baseball again last friday. I threw it well and with conviction, and I will resume my throwing program tomorrow. This is a great sign as I hope to one day turn into a professional baseball player.
While playing poker I had somewhat of a small epiphany. What am I doing with my life? It's a beautiful 78* outside right now, and I'm grinding at a poker game? Really? Don't get me wrong, I want to succeed at poker, obviously. I want to dominate, but it's not my passion. Baseball is my passion. So I took a break, and I ran. It wasn't long, but I needed to do it. And I need to do it five to seven times a week. There's no excuse not too.
I have a revamped, renewed desire to become the best at baseball. This is a tough rehab, it makes the athletic mind numb. It takes your mental strength and tweaks it, tears at it, stretches it to the max. This is without a doubt the most I've ever been challenged mentally, and I'm hoping to come away from this experience with so much more than I began it with.
With all of this being said, being the competitor that I am, I always want to get better at what I am participating in. This was a post not directed at poker, but I did play today, had a break even session, felt like i was running good, but didn't play but for only an hour. I was getting a lot of folds it seemed like, and this was how my session went...+ Show Spoiler +

This is one hand I would like feedback on. This was obviously a misclick. I mean to fold on the flop but clicked call fml. My question is this: how it's played [misclick] how many times to i abandon my hand? I feel this was a stupid move even though it "worked". Do we let go? or can we push against tighter opponets?

Is it +EV or -EV? Also, do the entire hands work with HEM? as in, if i fold preflop, will HEM see the rest of the hand for the rest of the tables stats??
spring break 2011.
El_Tanque, Mar 12 2011
fml as soon as i got home my parents put me to work cleaning acorns from the backyard.
Definitely a plus yesterday as I won $165 on the one armed sluts on the casinos on the way home. I have a blackjack fund that i put $115 towards (now up to $275), and $50 will go to ftp so i can feel more comfortable playing the micros confidently. I like having atleast 20 BI's at the level i'm playing at, so once i'm up to $100 i'll move to 5nl, shouldn't take too long. I've been playing very well, however i am missing out on all the information i could be getting by using HEM, or pokertracker, which brings me to my next question...
Which software works best/most efficiently? I feel i could be making much more informed decisions if i had some background information on certain players... Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!!
Best site to start on?
El_Tanque, Mar 07 2011
I am ready to start grinding again. Whats the best site to start on?
Also, if anyone wants to make $1, stake me $10, once I get to $20, I'll send $11. I'm an RA and have to work the front desk for 6 hours tonight, so i'd like to play tonight, and I can't send money using debit card b/c my bank won't let me.
If you can help let me know!!
Thanks
EDIT!!!
If i do this, how important is the first time bonus? I've only played on cake and ps.
Also, nvm on the $10 stake, i was able to use the instacheck or w/e. Thought it would take a week or something!!! Thanks tho!
