Thanks for better and more information palak, but how the hell does this statement you made make any reasonable and rational sense? I'm not ignorant as to how the world runs, and I would have expected someone to attempt to exploit Gaddafi, but when documents surface proving such a policy, I think nonchalantly blowing it off as another day at work is truly sad. Also, I don't think the majority of Americans understand that foreign policy is heavily dictated by what our economic gains are, so when something comes up like this, I think it's not that big of news to people paying attention, but to the average dumbass American, how is this not a huge fucking deal?

You do realize it wasn't the US gov't in the contract...it was a group of ppl claiming without any proof that they could influence decisions..judging by how their treasury proposal never got approval it seems to me they talked a big game and couldn't actually back it up for shit. There's "an american politician" he could be mayor of fuckoffsville for all we know. People making claims about shit and wanting money is nothing new so I'm not surprised nor does it matter to me. I'm more concerned about the fact that it came out in september that libya was one of the countries we were shipping people off to in order to evade US torture laws. The fact the US still uses torture and secret prisons upsets me far more then a small group of ppl claiming they can do something w/o any proof in order to try and make some money.

dont tap the glass...im about ready to take a fucking hammer to the aquarium

Good point.
But I don't think this is just a private group attempting to do business. I'll check up with where the documentation was found and shit like that, but I seriously doubt 0 political strings were pulled in an offer like this.

Former CIA officer charged in alleged leaks

Fuck NObama. In the previous 40 years before NObama, 3 cases were brought to court by the US government in regards to intelligence leaks to the media. This is the 6th case under NObama. Guy hates freedom. That's all that can be said. As nolan said, US = military dictatorship.

WASHINGTON—Federal authorities arrested a former Central Intelligence Agency officer and charged him with leaking to reporters the identity of agency employees as well as classified information about an interrogation program.

John Kiriakou was charged with leaking CIA secrets to a newspaper.

John Kiriakou served 14 years as a CIA officer and later became a commentator who described in a 2007 television interview the use of waterboarding, a technique intended to simulate drowning, in the interrogation of alleged al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah.

A Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va., alleges that Mr. Kiriakou was the source of classified information provided to reporters, including the identity of two CIA officers and of an investigative technique used to capture Mr. Zubaydah in Pakistan in 2002.

Mr. Kiriakou, 47 years old, is charged with violating the Espionage Act and the Intelligence Identities Protection Act for allegedly disclosing the identity of a covert officer. He also is charged with lying to CIA employees who reviewed a book proposal he wrote, and of lying to FBI agents when questioned about the leaks.

Through his attorney, Plato Cacheris, Mr. Kiriakou waived his right to a preliminary hearing and the judge found cause for his arrest. Under an agreement between the defense and prosecutors, the judge ordered Mr. Kiriakou released under a $250,000 bond. Mr. Cacheris didn't respond to a request for comment.

A 2008 New York Times article identified a former CIA interrogator who was involved in a secret CIA detention and interrogations program used after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to hunt al Qaeda suspects.

The story also described an electronic scanning technique used in the hunt for Mr. Zubaydah. The FBI affidavit said Mr. Kiriakou provided classified information to a reporter that was used in the story. The New York Times story quotes Mr. Kiriakou by name but also cites other, unnamed intelligence officials. A spokesman for the Times declined to comment.

The reporter provided the information to an investigator working for defense attorneys representing so-called high-value detainees at the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the FBI affidavit says. The attorneys filed documents containing names of CIA employees and contractors, and classified details about their detention, the affidavit says, leading to the probe of Mr. Kiriakou.

Months later, 32 pages of photographs of employees of the CIA, FBI and contractors were found in the prison cells of high-value Guantanamo detainees, the FBI affidavit says.

The Justice Department assigned U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald in Chicago to investigate the leak, which at first focused on whether defense attorneys violated the law by providing the photographs to the detainees. In bringing charges against Mr. Kiriakou on Monday, the Justice Department said the attorneys didn't violate the law. No charges were brought against the reporters.

David Petraeus, the CIA director, cautioned employees in a message to guard agency secrets. "Unauthorized disclosures of any sort—including information concerning the identities of other agency officers—betray the public trust, our country and our colleagues," he wrote.

Not sure what the actual charges are as far as what info he leaked which they r charging him for vs leaks they may be letting slide vs ambiguous 'all leaks' which is what i'm guessing it is. Frustrating >.<
Leaks of misc things which only put ppl in harm like Valerie Plame are things ppl should get sentenced to jail for. Leaking things like 'america is torturing suspects against the geneva convention' shouldn't get punishment. But no organization would every allow such a system.

funny "Guy hates freedom" post, it makes me feel like even if you dont believe obama you still see the world under that ridiculous "freedom" scope.

It has never been about loving or hating freedom, its about human nature, greed, power and control.
