obviously Hicks isnt shitting on the act of dancing nor socializing, he is shitting on the club-scene, which is full of shallow and pathetic people.

He isnt against party, getting wasted, he has done his share of booze and drugs, its the place (and therefore people) that is shit, you know, when the place has a big bouncer and a chain, the place is full of idiots with ugly shirts unbuttoned far too low, shallow gold diggers with a lot of make up dancing to shitty hip-hop... that is the scene he and us, find pathetic.

Loco is right that the internetz and TV make emotional stimulation to easily accessible. I remember I had the most free time and was doing the most running, gym etc. when I was without a computer completely for 3 months. The reading a book thing and 'self cultivation' is being a douchebag with the need for self-affirmation though yourself Loco, because one way is right for you doesn't mean it's right for others.
Just because I find it fulfilling to study a wide range of subjects doesn't mean at all that I will look down upon someone who works on his body and sees it as the most important thing, someone who wants to pull birds, or someone who just wants to be happy in his life, and be passively entertained. Who are you to judge what's good and what's not, life purpose depends on each individual and his personal needs, values and desires.

You should read my posts before replying to me. I made it very obvious that I am like everybody else and the computer has done harm to my attention span. I don't have a good one and as a result I have to put a lot of effort into reading.

And I guess we're just in different circles, because I don't know many people who read seriously and especially not outside of required readings for school. And they all struggle with reading. Congratulations if you don't, you seem to be the one who thinks he's special with that post.

I do know of a ton of people who are ailed and they don't know why and have not learned to be responsible for themselves, and they all happen to fart around every day and enjoy maybe a little too much entertainment, and I'm not blaming them, I think it is largely the result of being brought up with access to such mediums.

See, it is hard to take you seriously when you call yourself that, most enlightened people I know are open minded and humble. I had several modules at university with great professors and amazing discussions on this subject, in particular on the purpose of business and sustainability and one and arguably the only specific thing everybody agreed on was that there are no answers set in stone and there are cultural, national and personal perspectives.

Who cares if our attention spans are smaller? You're comparing us to the people of the past and the world has changed dramatically. You cant prove for 1 second that by reading books and living like we did in the stone age eating raw food is the optimal way to live in a modern world. We're obese now, we have ADD? Who cares we also live 4x longer lives on average live with a much higher standard of life and undoubtedly are much more "enlightened" than anyone who lived even 30 years ago. Why do we all have to have the capability to read a book and have perfect health. We aren't getting more stupid or less healthy the only thing that has changed is "normal" and "normal" has been changing since the dawn of time.
