i agree with frinkx... this is really epic. some real mind-expanding stuff... i got so much out of this. one girl showed her big breasts, guys went to the gym and talked about their tans, they drank alcohol, went clubbing, kissed a bunch of girls. and there even was a fight between two guys. oh man, i am so entertained right now... amazing omg i love my life. i like money too. and drinking. and sex. and money.
(forget the montage in the video, i just couldn't find that part of the movie elsewhere... or maybe not.)
yo grats on having a different sense of humor than most people. it obviously makes u smarter and better
dont shit on our parade just because ur some prat who isnt as easily amused.
and u prolly dont like it cuz u dont go out cuz ur a minger
oh i'm easily amused. in fact, just seeing you worm-like people getting a kick out of watching other worm-like people pandering to their immediate selves & being oblivious to their blind-worm cycles is a great source of amusement to the smarter and better Almighty Me. *facepalm*
i'm free to speak my mind and i don't mind if the people who enjoy it hate me for it. that show is the worst thing i have ever seen. and it's not harmless, that's why i bother posting about it.
solid personal attacks btw.

Loco there is nothing more pathetic than the people who sit on a high horse because they've achieved a high level of awareness about a bunch of important issues without ever actually having taken a single action that affects those issues. Awareness without action is worthless. If not in a position to take action on the issues then having the knowledge is worthless.
if that to you is the climax of all that is pathetic then i don't know what to say.
and if you admit that i have achieved such a level of awareness, how the hell would you know that i haven't taken action on any of it? just seems like a preposterous assumption from you. if i haven't changed the world it means that i haven't done anything - is that it?
however i'd want to pass the message it would look high horsey because it's so counter-culture to be against such mind-numbing entertainment. so i decided that i might as well make it humorous, simply because i don't want to be all preachy and say "don't watch these shows folks, it's not good for ya!".
and you're being way too vague about the worthlessness of things. is not awareness leading to the not-doing of something a form of doing something? who is it worthless for? is not my awareness at least always serving me? i.e. i don't watch these shows so i can read good books instead - am i not winning something here?

btw, does this show air in the U.S.? I hate watching these juicy 4 min clips and not getting the whole entire picture. IMO I think Vicky and Jay are the most likeable potential couple possible out of them. Greg seems the person most into himself by far. Oh and I'd wear those shirts if I wasn't so fat right now (17% bodyfat). Nothing wrong with showing what you got, but it is annoying to see Greg actually lift up his shirt all the time.

worm-like people. lol to even compare me to these clowns on geordie shore. i'm fucking laughing at them, but i guess i can appreciate their antics because i actually do go out and socialize and have wild nights sometimes. the main attraction is their accents and slang anyways.
and it is completely harmless

i'm not comparing you to them, but i can understand the appeal considering the lifestyle you lead. the worm-like thing is a joke because you made it sound as if it was all about me being self-righteous and trying to make you look like idiots for enjoying it and nothing more. yes i poke fun at you but there is an obvious motive to my post. the thing is, whether you are stupid or intelligent makes very little difference if you are unaware of the role that the electric media plays in a culture and its effect on an individual. my argument is not that everyone who watches this stuff is an idiot, it is that it will eventually turn people into idiots because they will enjoy it so much; there won't be space for cultivating the mind anymore because entertainment will always be available and it's the thing we are naturally directed to: immediate gratification.
and trust me on one thing: it's not harmless. the very fact that everyone thinks it is harmless is what makes it go unnoticed and such a disaster. from the narrow, careless perspective in one's life it's just a petty harmless thing, but once examined properly--with full attention--you can see both its detrimental cultural and individual effects clearly.
i don't want to keep derailing your thread as i've passed my message already, so i'll let people who are curious look into it themselves. i would start here.
or if you prefer a video version of what's written there: + Show Spoiler +
also good watch (start it at 2:55):
this is vitally important stuff.

i did understand what you were saying i guess i just dont believe it because i dont believe a tv show can have any effect on me. i go out a lot sure but i dont conduct myself in this manner. but i guess for most people it can warp them... meh
you're not seeing the bigger picture here. it's not so much the content that has a negative effect; it's the medium through which we receive the content.
the best example i can give you of that is our attention spans. how many people can focus on large texts easily nowadays? the attention span of people pre-electric mediums of communication were very much higher than ours, and there is a lot of evidence for that. it is rewiring the brain, and doing many things that go unnoticed. the content isn't responsible for that.

Loco please don't make this thread about how intellectually superior you are to the rest of us. And people not reading your enormous posts has nothing to do with attention spans. Srsly, after making 17248 posts you still think this place is where virgins come to discuss Schiller?

geordie shore isn't just mindless entertainment. it's like a trip to the zoo. not only is it a lot of fun but you learn a ton of stuff along the way too. i guess i could hop on an airplane and go to sunderland but that sounds like a terrible vacation and i'd much rather go somewhere else and just watch from a distance. i've never met someone that had the time/money/energy to never have at least 40 min of downtime once a week.
as for bill hicks, so a complete misanthrope goes to a night club alone and has a bad experience? no way you gotta be fucken shittin me?
i mean you don't even need his outstanding commentary. it's hilarious just picturing it. it's also hilarious trying to picture the cast of the geordie shore reading kant and having a philosophic discussion. i don't really know where i'm going w/ this and i have to go so i'm just gonna diarhea some thoughts.
-if bill hicks looked like brad pitt and danced like usher i have a feeling he would have a different take on nightclubs and dancing.
-socializing and meeting new ppl can broaden horizons. it can be way more enlightening and fun than reading ernest hemingway's 15th short story

these kids on geordie shore seem happy enough so kudos to them since thats what its about. and the people who like the show mostly just relate to what they are doing and its funny because of the extremity

Is it because you can't make an argument that you have to resolve to personal insults and twisting what I say to fit those?
Please, do tell me why people come here. You seem to be a knowledgeable fellow. Are you saying that people don't come here to learn about anything relevant to their lives, or to cultivate themselves in any way? I think people do. Maybe not everyone, but that's no justification for not trying to get some serious discussions going on from time to time.
And I don't know why you thought it relevant to mention my post count, but that's exactly why I bother still; you haven't actively been a part of this community for as long as I have. It would be, from my perspective, much more insulting to the intelligence of people if I chose to not post anything serious at all (or make some jabs and throw insults without ever elaborating) because I'd assume people aren't smart enough to comprehend it. If I try to get people to think and argue it first and foremost means I believe there are intellectually capable people here that can engage in meaningful discussions amidst the irrelevances. I don't see you doing that though, maybe you keep those discussions for your private club but I don't have one!

So the show has educative value! Can you give me a few examples of how the things you might learn from it serve you in life?

Also, call Hicks a misanthrope as much as you want, I think whatever set of skills he has developped and cultivated (because these things are not a given, which you make it sound like they are) had a lot more humanitarian value than Usher's dance moves, but that's just me.

Loco, if you actually wanted to discuss "the role that the electric media plays in a culture and its effect on an individual" you wouldn't have entered this thread, in your mocking tone, looking down on anybody who could possibly enjoy the show as entertainment... you would have actually raised your points/questions in an appropriate manner... you are smart enough to know that your original post in this thread would mainly lead to flaming, not productive discussion, and yet that is the path you chose
This was really nothing more than you trying to make yourself superior to the rest of us "worms" no matter how you now try to spin it

This is only partly true. Of course I knew the reactions I would get. I considered both options before making the post, and I chose to make the post because I first of all enjoy 'beating up' on easy self-indulgence (my own even more than others, and because I think these types of shows are the epitome of it) and second of all because it was the easy route to get people's attention. I'm thinking my post would've been largely ignored if I had only raised some questions, and I wasn't sure which ones to raise or how to, considering I didn't have any context for it. It's easier to get people's attention when they take it personally, and it creates a context. And yes, perhaps I do want people to take it personally, but I really don't think it has much to do with my own gratification and feelings of superiority like you wish to believe. People can try to psychoanalyze me if they want and find the ulterior motive in what I did, but I'm aware enough to know that I was maybe going to get into this and that the information provided might be good starting points for some people who have begun to think about this and maybe question that the mindless entertainment in their lives might be interfering with healthy behavior.
And if by 'feeling superior' we mean that I believe that my values are at a better and higher place, and my habits wiser, then yes, I absolutely feel superior to most people who are just goofing around, stuck in an unconscious cycle of easy gratification day after day. Why wouldn't I? Does it make me a terrible person because I believe--from observing people's habits--that I generally make wiser choices than them?
I think if there was a major mistake in what I did it is that after I watched it out of curiosity I decided to post in here to express my dislike of the show and at the same time expressed my concerns humorously and contemptuously. I'm thinking separating both, and having made a new thread for my concerns would've been a wiser choice and would've led to better opportunities for discussion. I haven't made a thread in forever so it didn't cross my mind.
