Hello, I am sorry if this is in the incorrect section. I am fairly new to poker I play low buy in mtts like 0.10 - 0.25 buy ins so not a big money player. Now I can do fairly well in these tournaments but I just fold fold fold till I get a really nice looking hand and then go all in. I would like to improve my skills and have tried joining poker clubs for advice before and got no help. Could somebody point me to some help? I would like to know when it is proper to call in to a pot when you have a mediocre hand such as suited connectors or pocket 2s or 3s. I usually fold these hands preflop unless I am the blind but a lot of times, had I called, I'd have easily taken the pot. Is there a method to deduce whether or not you should call. Thanks for any help |

I played the same way when I started and then slowly started applying new ideas to my play. One tourney I'd pay special attention to bet sizes, one tourney I'd concentrate on stealing blinds etc. Read as much as you can (loads of great articles here), watch as many videos as you can (I found the videos on Full Tilt poker academy very helpful) and you'll surprise yourself how quickly you improve! Good luck! |

I find these nit-begginers so weird
when I started I was just raise-raise-raise like crazy, prob started at nl2 like 90/75 vpip pfr and at sngs shoving anything slightly ok at <15 bb and open shoving good hands when deeper |

| Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol | |

Definitely look at the helpful articles around site. It's helped me! Anyway, if you want my PERSONAL advice, if you are a rock (a super-tight player), when you do make a play, not many will call. If you loosen up a bit, throw in an odd play or two, it might seem minimal, but in the long run you will see vast improvements. |

Sometimes I play these hands. However, if you're new, better fold |

lol woooow um... i guess we were all here at some point.
theres A LOT you need man. A LOT. and im not being mean, its the honest truth... estimate what you think you need right now in your head...and times it by like 100... then consider if youre willing to put that time/effort into learning poker. its a skill game.. and based on that paragraph - you dont have any. and thats not your fault, youre just starting out... im just saying, its a lot to tackle and is going to take a lot of time and a lot of trials.
id start by reading as much as you can on whatever discipline of poker (looks like MTTs - Multi Table Tournies) and just absorb concepts and ideas. lurk forums for articles at first and then start paying attention to threads, pick up the lingo (2+2 and pocketfives are great additions to LP). read till you cant read anymore... dont even play, just read. if you play, youre just wasting your money at this point - i promise you. just read read read for like 2-4 months.
if youve gotten this far ill be impressed. start paying attention to other aspects of forums. threads - hands - etc... start participating in the discussion. if you have a question, ask it. people are nicer than you think half the time. do this for like 1-2 months (and then continue to do so forever lol).
torrent some instructional vidoes.. theres litereally a million of them (bestpokertorrents.com) and take notes on the little things and the bigger concepts.
in the end, nothing will replace experience. but in order to get quality experience, you need to have a general idea of what youre doing. right now youre looking at a target, blindfolding yourself, being spun around 3 times, and shooting the gun... hoping something hits somewhere.
get the basics/fundamentals down before you pick up the gun.
*sorry i cant give you a simple answer, like Doyle said "We're playin poker, not solitaire" |
