Game is a 3 blind half and half $10/$20/$40 game. I'm sitting $4.5k deep, limper is the fish at the table who is sitting $3.5k deep. Villan is older guy named Eddie, who is pretty tight solid, but PLO is definitely his game of choice and he grooms this "tight" image well as he uses it to bluff in good spots. Eddie has everyone covered.

Fish limps, I raise to $200 in CO with AhKsQdJs, Eddie calls in the middle blind, and fish calls.

Flop comes: Qs 5s 2s

Eddie and fish both check to me. I checked (?) / Rest of the hand played out pretty standard from there as I called down Eddie on non pairing turn and river.

If I check here with this hand, what range of hands should I actually bet this flop with (other than obvious nuts)?

My opinion is not very good, since I mainly play 6 max plo and 1/2 plo live. When I win at 1/2, it's based on the fundamental mistakes of the bad players. When good players fill the table, it is much harder for me to adjust. I would figure on this board that we could bet non nut flushes since calling down medium or low flushes is a terrible idea. We could also bet air(if we have A spade we should probably bet) and maybe sets for deception value. I hope I am not too far off and look forward to more advice.

I'd bet a couple of streets to get money of the fish. If I understand the blind structure you guys are sitting fairly shallow and considering how the fish is after eddieguy he can't really bluff with impunity either. Unless the fish can fold.

I think with the fish in the hand you have to bet here for value, protection, defining your hand and bla bla bla. If you decide to check call/call seems standard but again I dont think you are deep enough or vs a tough enough player/s to not bet here.

id really like to know what reasons would make checking flop a standard, especially with a fish in the hand

just cause eddie can blufff us off the best hand with the bare As?

Checking flop seems really bad to me but what do I know.

well, obvious upside to checking the flop is that we cannot be bluffed off the best hand here. If we bet here and eddie repots, we're in big trouble and will probably have to fold, as check/calling from there will result in us being all-in on the river without the nuts

Otoh, eddie needs balls of steel to make some bluff with the As here, as our fish is also in the hand. I'd be inclined to bet here to get money from the fish, and probably fold if eddie repots our bet.

Also if the turn isn't some scary card you're more likely to get 2 streets of value from your K-high flush because opponents will think you'd have bet the flop with it.
