Hi, I am having a tough time trying to move up stakes in micro SNG. I play 18man 3.40$SNG and can beat them regularly but everytime I attempt 6.50$ i quickly lose several BIs and end up on a downswing. Any suggestions as to what to do? Should I switch to cash?

The reason why you might be experiencing a downswing at the $6 sng's is probably because you're underrolled...

I recommend 100 buy-ins, if not 90+ for them, so about $500-600 before you try the $6 sng's...

the reason for the high buy-ins is because there can be long periods of dry spells, meaning that you either 1) break even often, 2) you don't cash high enough for there to be significant profit, and 3) there is a shit ton variance

in order to get really good profit from these you have to play hundreds of these things...

if you can't beat the $6.50's, immediately go back down after you have anything less than $300.. and rebuild and take another shot at around $500-$600.

also, the thing about cash... it's also good to mix some cash in, play some NL $5 to help pad your bankroll with buy-ins, it's easy $ and also a good idea to do... don't completely switch from one to another, just have a good mix and balance..

after you succeed and get to $1000, then you can reconsider what new direction you want to take with your roll... but otherwise just keep playing as many sng's as you can and mix some of that cash in there..

I think that you should definately move to cash because its
1) more profitable
2) more interesting

That's a huge generalization that's true for you, but may not apply for anyone else...

I for one think sng's are alot more interetsing than cash at micro stakes

You think its a generalisation? o rly? ^^ anyways its of course a matter of tastests which is more interesting but it is at least clear that sngs are far more robotic and easier to master.

Its because there is more room to abuse your opponents mistakes in cashgame, and imo there are also more fish at cash tables.

Which is exactly why I'd advocate them while on micro stakes

This of course is assuming they are already a winning cash game player. If they don't know how to win micro stakes cash switching later will be more difficult.

I dont remember anything from last night. all i know is, is that i woke up naked on my couch, with a piece of uncooked chicken on the stove. -Josh McLeod

I use the 10 BB BR management. Once I get to 20 BB I move up.
I started with the 1$ double or nothing turbos, crushed like 15 of them and started playing the 5$ ones, After about a month I broke 100$ BR and I began playing the 10$ ones, So far pretty much the same as the 5's so I'll probably stay here until I get to 200/250$ Then move up to the 20's.

200+ tourneys, So far so good.

PS- If I dip below the 10 Buys I'll fall back down a limit.

Just keep grinding and give yourself more cushion.
