Why do people dislike Americans?

I was talking about this with a friend, and since this is an international forum i thought i might get some good answers here. I've spent some time overseas, and it's very evident that people don't like americans. They don't hate us, they just have a negative opinion of us. When did this happen, and what's the reason?

take a good look at our government, that would explain most of it.

Because USA is policing the world and for their own interests, they have military bases in the middle east to pursue their own goals.

They support genocidal dictators when its in their interests to bring down democratic ones (like they did in the past in Iran), and then invade countries like Irak claiming to bring freedom (LOL) to them while raping the whole country for oil.

But you might say, well that is OUR government, well that affects your image and in a personal level as individuals the worlds just see you as retarded ignorant idiots who follow their gov decisions blindly where in many part of the world they would have already revolted, for example in Greece they just had a big revolt for something 10000 smaller than what the republicans just did for 8 years in USA.

also adding onto what baal said, the vast majority of people who have a problem with our government are too pussy to do anything about it.. and then there is a large ignorant portion of our country that does support their decisions

aaaaaaaaaaaand they spill bullshit like they are "trying to defend democratic Georgia from evil Russia" when only a fucking moron would believe that USA would mess with Russia to simply defend a tiny piece of shit country who actually was the agressor.

Turns out Georgia is right next to azerbajan the biggest oil country around the caspian sea and Georgia is an important key in this oil operation so the US cant allow Russia to take over it, yet many stupid americans believe they are the freedom bringers of the world when its infact the opposite, they have enslaved the world for long enough

Hillbillys, gun nuts, religious fanatics, maniacs, pedos, douchebags, fat people.

US seems to be a breeding ground for those.

People who dislikes americans just because they are americans are stupid as hell.

Its one thing if you disagree with the decisions of the US government, but if that makes you hate all americans, youre just fucked in the head.

I can agree with the hillbillies and religious fanatics, but not at all with fat people. plenty of countries in europe are obese as well. check out the statistics.

People hate american government and the fact that they try to control everything in the world. There's really no reason to hate the people in the country especially since most don't agree with many of the country's action, but that's what happens unfortuantley :/

i love it when people hate on me it makes me stronger...but really i couldnt give two shits if someone in eastern europe likes me or not

Agreed most people i know despise americans, but they are not like "evil americans" more like "LOL stupid americans", and i always stand up for americans because i happen to know many outstanding ones, and when you just hate a country you just become a stupid nationalistic retard.

Nations are nothing but people living between imaginary lines, saying "LOL people between those imaginary lines are soooo much worse than people between our imaginary lines" is absolutely stupid.

because of our government and the vast population of incredibly narrow-minded people - tho those people don't normally visit foreign countries.

i think its incredibly pathetic when people have negative attitudes towards americans without knowing anything about them because of our government

but in my european travels (paris, london, switzerland, poland, prague) i haven't run into any negative attitudes (that i noticed) towards americans except for a homeless guy who was swearing at us in french and ranting about how france saved america during our revolution lololololol

Also much have changed under Bush, if you went to europe during the Clinton era many people had a very different opinion about americans

I mainly dislike ignorant people and a large % of USA's population is ignorant.Now im not saying that there arent ignorant people in every country but i dont think as big % as in the USA.Also ur educational system is pure joke and Sarah Palin proved that in this years election.Its brutal not to know where for example Afganistan is or stuff like that.Also what roflcopter said ur government is pure joke
