I'm starting to become suspicious of these small raises since I often feel compelled to call cos of pot odds and people are just drawing me into the pot with their set/2-pair... It looks to me like he's trying to build a pot here. He probably doesn't have a premium pair but outside of that his range can be anything. he limps pot, calls my R- people sometimes just get the burning desire to play whatever they hold.

based on his betting actions was I being too nit?

Uh, welcome to LP.

If you're going to make like 6 hand posts, just lump it all into one big request thread, or put it into a blog entry. You'll get much better quality advice and clog the forum less.

I'm inclined to stack off here purely on principle. We have aces and it's 2nl. Into Infinity's thinking is correct, though.

The one point I'd like to stress is that I think you're thinking about "hand reading" the wrong way. It's like "reading actions based on the player", not the other way around. What you're doing is lumping every single 2nl fish into a single playertype and then assuming that every time you're faced with a small raise, you're in trouble.

At NL2 and most stakes up to NL100 mostly, what you have there is called the 'post flop minraise of death'. Or PFMD for short. Pronounced "Pffmmddrtrtt!" 90% of the time it simply means some fish has somehow landed a monster, and while cumming all over his keyboard spaztically hit the raise button without actually thinking about what amount to raise. Do not look at the amount of the raise as any indication of the strength of his hand, simply consider the fact that he snap minraises you. The other 10% of the time it is a random bluff or other crazy play with bottom pair that some fish just has a mental meltdown as starts playing goofy.

Other notes: preflop minraise is often total shit to weak pocket pairs, and preflop minREraises are again, often total shit to big ace type hands, but still easily beatable players. You will have to judge their postflop play actions later to determine what it meant.
