It was probably the best game ever made at that time, but today it may not be impressive, but this game really kicked the FPS genre off and invented most of the stuff we see today
I still remember when I was standing on a ledge above two soldiers below and the fuckers lobbed a grenade up where I stood, I was amazed these guys were somewhat intelligent compared to everything else at that time |

Half Life was released in like mid 1998 -> its like 10 1/2 years old.
Imo it was by far the sickest ego shooter of that time and absolutely ahead of everything else of the genre.
Got like 93 % rating in most of the respectet Gaming magazines
Beautiful graphics , cool story , dark hostile and intense atmosphere, Marines vs Aliens vs Hero szenario.
Also it was one of the first games where u could in many situations choose between like being a silent assasin or killing everything in Rambo style. ( I remeber that one room with like 12 ninjas and lots of boxes where u and they could hide. I crouched and sneaked from box to box killing every ninja one by one with the silenced military crossbow. That was so cool )
But what really made that game special at that time were the scripted ingame sequences that happend while u actually where playing.
This made the game so much more like a movie and so much cooler than every other shooter at that time.
Also the KI of the Marines was way ahead of every other shooter of that time. |
