At NL2 exclusively (because I have never seen this behavior at higher limits oddly enough), it typically means very very very weak pairs. BUT, dont let that suck you into trying to push them off by reraising, because they WILL NOT FOLD no matter what. Your best bet is to simply take the cheap odds at drawing out and hope to hit something or get a cheap showdown. Often they will do it with hands that beat you as well, but they are still going to fuck themselves in the ass giving you 10:1 odds to call. On occasion you can try potting the flop/turn to get some folds, but ideally you want to have at least top pair as insurance against whatever they are calling with. If you have better than top pair show no mercy. Do not get overly aggressive with weaker underpairs like 77 if they keep making strange bets.
The thing you really have to worry about is when they minbet the flop and you call, and then they overbet the turn. I never did figure out what that meant. |

ok well i think raising flop on the second hand is bad
it's a pretty bad board to even continuation bet because whatever villain continues with either leaves you drawing to two outs or still has sick equity vs. you (eg. fd or sd + overcards)
so just call it down once since it's cheap and see what he does on the turn |

A min raise like that is a check in 2NL a majority of the time. He didn't hit anything. Notice how he increased his bet a little on the river and how he raised pre-flop? He probably had AQ, but didn't hit until river, and even then on the river, he wasn't sure he had the best hand.
Cheers. |

Yeah I agree. What hawking says about when they minbet flop then overbet turn- I see this a few times on turn/river and maybe it's just when they hit or they could be trying to get a RR from you. I saw a guy check down his boat OOP from flop to river without betting :D
collegesucks: you're right about that... 2 high cards with draws and all overcards. hey maybe he thought he was cbetting into me

lol, random. Keep in mind NL2 is where everyone starts, and a lot of these people taught themselves how to play. So a lot of this weird shit you see is really player dependent. For whatever reason villain has derived upon his own, he decided to bet less on the turn than the flop. Maybe he thinks it's a cheap way to bluff. Maybe he thinks he's leveling you. Maybe he thinks it's a good way to find out where he's at. Try not to think about it much because if they are playing their own brand of poker, it's likely very uneducated, and therefore top pair top kicker should be bet like a royal flush all the way to the river.
Occasionally you'll know when you're beat. I.E. villain bets turn so weak, then shoves your raise. A call there would be questionable. Most guys at this limit tend to go apeshit when they catch really good hands, and their sudden commitment to stack off is usually an indicator you are beat, but often only thinly. You really cant lose when you have a set or better so be comfortable stacking off with thos hands all day. |
