b/c a lot of the time he calls with worse and theres no sense in giving a free card when we have the best hand so often and theres tons of bad rivers

yea many bad players are dumb but do you think most fish call a 270$ shove here without a jack,a flush or perhaps a set as a standard?
it's not natural to assume that he's a station just because he's bad.
For all we know he could have called river just because he thought he induced a raise and because hero checked back turn

did everyone see the results? it's a shove because that kind of thing is gonna happen pretty often. i mean, when you shove and get called, you're gonna see a mixture of...

1. you get it in drawing decent, and are especially happy considering the odds on your money due to the pot size already being substantial
2. you get it in with opponent drawing decent
3. you get it in with opponent drawing nearly dead

so i mean, result 1 has to be like 90%+ of the total results in order for shoving to be bad, but if result 3 occurs even 15% of the time then NOT shoving is just out of the question

Distribution of possible outcomes and comparing it to pot size is VERY important to optimal decision making.
