good spot to shove on him PF since he has ~20bb and could be opening light. Standard is to fold though. |

RR-or-fold preflop. Flatting is definitely the worst (and most expensive) option in the long run in spots like this. |
|
| Touch it, bring it, pay it, watch it, turn it, leave it, stop - format it. | |

Reraising the the most expensive b/c it's auto call/shove for QQ.
with the way it's played Reraise flop... he'll go over the top if he has an A. He bet out to find out if you had an A and flatting here allowed him to find his Q... |

and fwiw regardless of whether i would call/fold/raise pf, when you do see this flop, i think you gotta get it in. i am not letting him draw to a flush or anything else. 16 + plus existing pot makes it a shove imo. anything that is going to get it in with you on a later street would probably put it in at that point as well, alot of times behind (he had 89 to start, putting in 12k pf and 16k on flop; he is committed. after his flop bet he has ~61k behind into a pot of 49k before you even call or raise. if he has a drawing hand or a pair he has bet for value (and in the hopes you dont have an ace) calling allows him to play perfectly against you on the turn and river. if he hits his draw you are getting it in crushed. where as if he misses or has a holding that has become obviously too weak, he can check/fold to you saving his remaining stack. if he is betting out a hand that has you beat, AK AQ 55 44 A5 A4 (I assume he doesnt open 45 pf) your intention was to get it in, anyway, right? It might also be plausible for him to C/R AK AQ 55 44. So I think shove the flop. |

Without any reads on your opponent, it's tough to say what he's open-raising with in early position. 95% of the time I'm folding preflop here, as YOU want to be the aggressor with AJ, and in better position would be nice as well.
Now that you called though, you got a perfect flop for your hand. I think the flat call was a bad choice as it shows you are nervous about your kicker with the ace flopping. That's the thing with AJ (trap hands) it's VERY tough to know when you are ahead. You did, however, end up calling and need to raise his flop bet here - an all-in would be the best if you're going to continue with this hand this way. Flat calling is leaving you vulnerable to a flush draw, showing weakness, hitting the set (very rarely happens, but in this case it did)....With flat calling his raise preflop it would look like A-K, A-Q so you probably take it down with a raise on the flop.
The river check and shove by you is good - checking behind would be OK I guess too as they're aren't very many hands you can beat, KK or mid pocket pairs (the way the hand was played, of course I still think folding preflop is the best way to go).
