The hand was raised preflop. 2 people to the flop. I thought I could slowplay this for one round maybe to induce extra bets or extract more value. Is this okay to do? Was it okay to do here and I just got unlucky? General thoughts?

fold preflop the guy doesn't have a full stack so u don't have the odds to setmine
other than that I don't really mind slowplaying even after the showdown with a halfstack opponent, since I would lol in the thought of ever folding a set vs him

I'll put it in other words:
if he has a short stack don't try to hit a set
if you do setmine by accident and you hit a set never fold it vs such a small stack and do whatever you think will get him to put the money in

that's generally true because we charge for the draws etc but in this case are you suggesting that we fold if a draw hits? We can never fold a set vs such a stack,so if by our reads we determine that villain will only put the money in with eg second pair by slowplaying I don't see why we shouldn't do it

no, that's not what I am suggesting at all.

if u raise on the flop u can often even get action from AK here.

if u call the flop and the turn is 3, 4, club - all of a sudden villain is scared and is in check/fold mode

- Fold preflop, no odds to set mine here
- Now that you hit your set, raise flop since its soo drawy.
- Profit

I thought we could call this, since the preflop raise is less than 1/10th of the villain's stack?? :<

Odds of hitting a set on the flop with a PP are about 8.5:1 so you need to be stacking your oppenent alot of the time when you do hit for those odds (1/10th of stack) to work - and, as in this case, when you lose a hand when you hit it is often expensive! Most people want some more potential return than that. I usually only consider set mining Vs near full stacks or more often when there's a multi-way pot. I'd be interested to hear what others do.

i think you're pretty much spot on 4kingell, but my favorite time to set mine is against a 3bet when i'm getting exactly the minimum odds that i need against a player who is only squeezing with AA. then when i miss the flop and it goes check, check, i like to call his turn and river bets and tell myself that he's gotta have AK a lot of the time

that only goes if you are 100% certain he will stack off every single time you hit, which isn't very realistic.

Thanks for clearing things up, I use to always do the 1/10th thing. So what size of stack would the villian need to have for set mining odds? 20$? is there a formula for this?
