Mindset While Playing

I have been thinking about how I feel when I play poker, maybe leads me to become a fish.

Do you think you are the best at the table no matter what?

For me, I always think everyone sucks compared to me at the levels I play at.

I assume they all suck until my soul gets owned.

i dont think that but thats how i feel.

i dont care bout the other ppl
they are only stats and money.

I know it is cliche but staying focused on everything and making the best plays possible is the best mindset to be in. You know you are in the right mindset when instead of tilting after some fish calls an all in on the turn with a naked FD and hits the river you stay calm and think to yourself "well this guy is going to be my ATM for the next 4 hours" and make a note, or something like that. Taking your time for each action instead of playing on autopilot, even if it's just an extra second to make sure you are doing the right thing, can help a lot.

Also, making general assumptions about ALL of the players at the table as whole will make you busto. Instead of thinking that everyone at the table is better/worse than you, you have to pick out the good from the bad and play them accordingly.

On 1KNL almost everyone is a regular at iPoker so I know who sucks and who's good. On 400NL though I automatically assume everyone sucks and that I'm the best player on the table (which is usually true at 400NL).

I think its fine to think that everyone sucks and that you are a sicko. You just have to realize who else at realizes that about you and adjust accordingly, and who else is thinking that about themselves.

i try to feel what my opponent feels and then bluff him sometimes

i usually have to try to be calm and clear headed actually or else i end up being a big calling station and/or bluff station. i have the yomer syndrome, once i get like 300bbs deep i try to run allin bluffs

My emotions have a strong implication on how I think so I need to make sure im in a logical state of mind before playing.

i feel like im the king when im starting up, but in game i do try to respect what the others are trying to accomplish, even if its not how i would go about it. (especially headsup)

in ringgames you can get away more with feeling like everyone sucks but i still think you'll have to respect those with position on you.

i generally don't focus on whether i'm "better" or "worse" than my opponents, i just try to observe them and see how they can be exploited. i'd rather not get into e-penis wars about who is better and who is worse, when you take things too personally you often end up targetting someone too much and end up spewing, or at least that has been the case with me in the distant past.

Thats the same what i think. And i have made that experience as well.

Typically "god damnit why can I never fucking win" and "jesus christ i hate my fucking life" and "jesus christ I hate that asshole."

It really helps when being raised or 3 bet when I have marginal holdings. Also helps me in pushing them with air when they have strong hands.

Yesterday I played this small live game of poker in a a local poker club and I lost like 2 300+ bb pots to some sicko suckouts. Then I announced loud that I am stopping folding till I give the suckouts back. After that I raised almost every hand preflop to about 25bb or called if someone else made a huge raise before me. People folded pre or on the flop the first 4-6 hands. Then I got As6c, which was a monster for me then. 3 limpers, I made it 40bb to go preflop, 1 caller oop, flop came like J92 with 2 clubs, he checked, I fired pot, he hesitated for a while then went allin for about 2.5 times my bet. I showed my hand to the 2 people sitting next to me and said to them: "Fuck it, I am not folding this, its gonna come on the river I feel it.". I showed my hand to the table, my opponent didnt. Turn was Ac, river 4c. Even before seeing what my opponent had, I knew I sucked out. I started smiling and announced "Flush" and other people started laughing while my opponent tabled AQ without a single club, stood up and went to the nearest ATM. Nice flop c/r with AQ high by him though. I felt good regardless.

Thats my poker mindset.

It's very important to realize when you're outmatched lol. Thinking you're the best will lead into you being in unprofitable games.

I call to be sucked out on so when it happens I'm like 'I KNEW IT! SEE!'
but when I don't it's always a surprise and more enjoyable to win pots

I also try to have fun.

Like, really get into it and enjoy playing the best I can.

i find it fascinating to play sometimes when you really get behind the psychology behind some of the shit u do.

especially in pots where you or the other guy check behind a street like the flop or the turn. it completely changes stuff, no longer are both ppl playing for stacks so it usually rules out all monsters. then both people will think the other person is full of shit, but which hand is worse, how much can you call with the weak hand, etc etc. situations like that is where skills come into it alot i think
