Im sure many of you have already heard about this. This week the worlds biggest collider will be completed and ready for experiments on SEP 10. Even though there wont be any collision on that date there will be a test on accelerating a proton to one millions %% of the speed of light. So basically nuclear physics will enter a new world. IMO this machine WILL put a milestone in the history of mankind. There will come discoveries using this machine that will affect the life of every human beings. This is not a movie or a Sci-Fi story. There will be discoveries of how world has been created.
There will be also a test of creating a micro black hole(Or the creation of micro black holes was the side effect of a test) This has the potential of basically destroying the planet even though the chance is very very small. In theory this shouldn't happen but there is no evidence for these theories. (Im too ignorant to know all the facts about the theories and the experiments so plz correct me if you know more)
Im not a physics guy myself but Im really excited about this. As for the risk. I belong to those group of people that I belive knowing some stuff worth dying for.

I know they already had one which had some kind of a ridiculous diameter. Do you know how much bigger this one is supposed to be?

pretty cool imo, but its not going to change TOO much imo. quantum physics has been advancing pretty steadily and cool stuff like this comes out all the time. still cool tho

Should prove interesting ^ ^

all the people super scared of dying due to a huge black hole, honestly it would be like existing one moment and then gone the next...

if i had to choose a way to die, near-instant compression due to a blackhole would be it

Surely near instant takes on new meanings when you factor in the relativistic effects of a black hole. Near instant for whom?

Everyone knows black holes just take you to Disney Land.

lol theres quite a big uproar about morons who have no idea thinking these scientists could destroy the earth with the micro black holes ROFL.

well baal, there's a fair argument as to how far we really need to take science.

tbh i dont really understand why they want to make a black hole at all
doesnt that shit eat EVERYTHING and then just get more and more powerful wtf?
hell, if they just ran the experiment we may be getting swallowed by the hole pretty soon
internet will probably die first
hmm yes internet

if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhAN

they are creating a microscopic... no.... at atomic level black hole, it couldnt even suck ur tiny cock so we are safe

haha some quality posts here

I like the idea that if we all get wiped out without even feeling it it is no biggie at all

I actually agree lol

My work is of high quality, cheap and fast. Pick only two of those though.

im pretty scared
becuase i remember back in school doing physics and chemistry and stuff
if the teacher ever said "never do this/mix these/turn it up this high..." whatever it was
I would do it to see what happened.

What if theres a guy like me who actually passed his exams and went on to become a scientist?

i imagine your advanced studies in quantum physics have led you to such cynicism?

nope, just the testimonies of the scientists conducting this experiment.
