So on this note, who is all going to see the games, anyone actually seeing some events? Last summer games I saw live were in Atlanta which were pretty cool, probably 100x better than the beijing games will be because of the massive crowds and shitty smog but anyways, discuss.

they forbid any contaminating activity for a long time to clear the skies of beijing and the other cities, i saw the photos on the intrawebs.

Also the opening ceremony and organization in general seems superior than any other olympics in the past since this is China's way to say "oh hi 1st world, we will take over the world now thx".

if you take time to research about pollutants and how china measures levels of air contaminates you will see that they fall well below UN and most respected standards. You can be ignorant if you want but my statements aren't being 'shot' worthy. Just because the sky is blue doesn't mean the air is safe and with regards to crowds, who are you trying to fool?

What doe beijing having high air polution has to do with anything... so does fucking LA, NY, mexico city and big ass urban cities, who gives a shit... how does it change the olympis in any way.

The air is fucking shit there, complete shit. Do I think they are spending massive amounts of $ to make it awesome, yes I do but will it be amazing, we will see. I think that it won't be the best games ever and I also think that is pretty ridiculous that they have to literally manufacture a reality in beijing to create an atmosphere appealing to the majority. IF they want to make 1st world impressed, maybe they should be awesome to begin with and not become some an idolized version were they force over half the population in the area off the roads, stop industrial companies from business for over half a year and pretend like this is how they operate 24/7, yeah beijing rocks, lolz.

The whole point of this wasn't to be for or against the beijing olympics anyways, I just wanted to hear if anyone had plans to travel there and what events they were seeing.

Yes, pollution in Beijing was pretty bad. And yes, they are forcing cars off the street and shutting down factories to improve the air quality. But they are doing it to improve Beijing's atmosphere for the olympics, and they are certainly not pretending "this is how they operate 24/7."

If I clean my room before my friend comes over, am I pretending that my room has always been spotless?

Noone s pretending to be operating like that 24/7 they've made a public official statement that AUTOMOBILES ( yes u cant use ur car ) are forbidden to use during the olympic games(im pretty sure i heard that over the news i am about 95% sure not fully tho) .They are making absolutely everything they can to prevent any further pollution of the air for the time being.You should give them credit and not whine about it.What the fuck over 30million people are living in Beijing find me a city that big that a clean air.. in fact find me a city above 1mil that has clean air.I can even take u to a place here at the seaside that i doubt there are more than like 300k ppl and when u go out on the street u just cant breath normally.Yeah i see u didnt create the thread with the idea to start a for or agaisnt the beijing olympcs arguement but u sure turned it that way.Bad thing is China s still ruled by comunists which is pretty fucked up shit and also there are a lot of Al-Quida terrorist attacks attempts plans some of which were discovered already according to the news.That again might be just some bullcrap but hey who knows... if u ask me that be d the perfect place to cause chaos

Aaanyway im really looking forward to Friday to see the opening.The one in Greece was just legendary coz of the history they have and China is probably the country with the oldest origin to exist ( yeah yeah i know we all came from Africa and shit so they prolly aint in top10 oldest ones... who cares).So im expecting a lot from them and im pretty sure they wont disappoint the audience
