Single Table Bubble Opening Reqs

I play primarily 1 table sngs ($5+0.50) and I've found that I've increased my winrate further by tightening up as the chipleader at 4 and 5 players left and only raising premium hands regardless of position... yet it still pains me to throw away A9-A4 or KJ suited when it's folded to my button or small blind. I understand that the FE makes this a profitable play for your tourney chip EV, but when I'm such a large stack (1.5x or more the average) I feel like it might be a spew dollar-wise if you even once get value towned by a higher ace (at $5 people flat A10, AJ, and even AQ in the blinds) and wind up out of the money. How does your late position and BvB opening strategy change (or does it) when you're on the bubble but have a good chipstack?

While some of your assumptions are logical, you will find that proper bubble strategy is exactly the opposite of what you describe on a bigstack. Your goal is to put pressure on your opponents and steal as many blinds as you can. The 5+0.5s have a fairly slow structure, but I estimate you'll have antes going by the time you're 4h, which provides great incentive for you to steal as many hands as possible. You should be raising anywhere from 25 to 100% of your hands on the button, depending mostly on sb/bb calling range and stack sizes. You should be shoving close to any two sb vs bb if bb has <9BB and there are antes.

You're probably misguided because you have a very small sample size and you mistake preflop raises for spews - the two are very distinct, and fish calling your pfr with AQo is much better for you.

Try to think about the long run, and how maximizing chips on the bubble and securing 1st is better than 3rd. Sure, sometimes you will bust on the bubble after getting unlucky, but one 1st is better than two 3rd places.

this shit is OBSURD

Thanks Oxy. I get the theory, I just noticed my winrate go up when I tightened my opening, but it was probably just due to the small sample size. And, um, thanks others as well.
