This is my first time playing NL200. I normally play NL50 but had a bankroll surplus and decided to make a 1 buyin run at NL200.

Villain is 18/10/2 over 100 hands, plays pretty normal, no fancy moves.
I had been playing 25/12/2.5

Villain has seen me raise big aces from here and knows im not fucking around. Basically I felt his donk bets were b/c he knew I had a hand and knew I would call/raise. So I felt he was trying to set me up with AK or protect KJ on the flop. Had the turn been a total blank I would definitely be raising.

I think you played it way too weak.

I would usually raise flop thinking I am good most of the time. If he reraised/shoved over that then its tough vs a really tight player, I might sometimes find a fold but dunno, I guess I would often get my money in. Depends a lot if you think he would flat AK oop like this. If not then you are only afraid of 88 and A8, of which 88 will rarely donk lead into you and even A8 is more likely to check/raise. Also you probably dont have to ever be worried about K8 because of his stats (and even if he has that hand you still have ok equity). Plus you have a backdoor flush and a backdoor straight draws.

Just calling the flop is reasonable, but then I dont think I am never folding to a half-pot bet on the turn, especially when you have gutshot to the nuts as well.

there is a light at the end of the tunnel... (but sometimes the tunnel is long and deep as hell)Last edit: 22/07/2008 19:24

wtf don't raise the flop, you'll scare away worse hands and then hate your life when you get shoved on. keep letting him bet. I don't understand the turn fold unless you know the guy well, the kid almost never has KJ for donk leading potsized into the pfr on A high flop and even if he does you have plenty of outs. Make your read on the river, i'm most likely calling all 3 streets unless it's a huge bet on the river, then I'd think he has 88 or QTs every time, possibly AJ but tight players usually check/call there.

fuck I should just sell some of my Pokemon cards, if no one stakes that is what I will have to do - lostaccountLast edit: 22/07/2008 18:25

Yea it just seemed so weird for him to lead into it like that, and he seemed like a normal player. My cbet was like 100%, so if he thinks he's got me beat why not let me do the pushin? I could think the only reason I would do something like that would be if I was mindfucking someone into a big trap. It was my first hand against him too, and we had chatted briefly here and there so everything about the whole situation just seemed off. And if this was NL50 I would have been all over his ass. Just wasnt sure what to expect. So far so good though.
