Villain is 29/9/0.7 over 200 hands. I am leaning towards a fold, since I dont believe a passive player would pot bet AJ/KJ/QJ the majority of the times.

um, 29vpip 9pfr and 0 and 7 stand for check/folding all 7 hands@flop?

tbh i'd rather bet(24 looks good)/fold turn to raise , 7 hands is by no means a sample to base conclusions on how hed play AJ/KJ

JT 22 88 are also pretty likely imho, and getting in on turn against a loose passive station who suddenly shows aggression is not neccessary imho. Bet/fold turn, or bet turn/vbet most rivers, but as played I call and probably consider folding to a second barrel, a 0.7 AF station won't double barrel with worse imho.

It's pretty important to bet/fold the turn here for 2 main reasons. Firstly you get value from a huge part of his range that now has a draw to go with a pair; and secondly it allows you to escape the hand more often when you are beat, which it's nearly impossible to do if you check/call.

Researchers used brain scans to show that when straight men looked at pictures of women in bikinis, areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated.

The reason I checked is because of his passiveness. My assumption here is that a passive players will not play his draw aggressively here. Moreover, the tendency of most passive players, when holding AJ, KJ, QJ is to bet around 15 instead of a pot bet. A bet of 15 I would have snapcalled. So I believe that more than 80% of the times he has a hand that beats me, whether it is a set, 2 pair, or straight.

With that read its obviously a fold.

Your reasoning for checking are terrible though. He is LOOSE PASSIVE, and you have an overpair.

But his passiveness should be the reason to bet . Checking turn is good only if u know he will bet with worse hands (draw, bluffs..), when he´s agressive, and then u want to check/raise - which isnt this case.

Btw as played fold seems fine, potbet from passive player looks very strong.

Edjon   Netherlands. Jul 10 2008 10:34. Posts 1579

I know that I defeat a loose passive villain's range normally with my overpair. An extra reason for checking the turn is that he insta called my flop bet.
I believe that bet sizes and its tendencies are a good way to get information about the strenght of these rather uncomplicated players.
As said before, loose passive player normally dont pot bet AJ/KJ/QJ in this situation and will check or half pot bet a draw (in which case I can choose to shove or call).
That's why his pot bet leans towards a fold for me (which I actually did).
For the players who say: pot/pot/shove or something in that direction: how would you continue after his pot bet?

well edjon, i think with this hand and this player i either bet/bet/bet call shove on every street or bet/c-r shove turn.

He will do this with aj and every draw aswell

You already explained how to play the hand. He is passive. passive players flat marginal and then raise when they wake up with a big hand. AJ isn't a big hand tp, it is a flat calling hand all streets with passive. SO you bet, bet, bet, Depending on how much is left behind on river you are forced to call any raise usually but that isn't the point because more often he will just flat with top pair.
