I played the hand kind of weird, but here's my thinking. On the flop flat-call I was thinking that he will most likely barrel again on the turn and there arent neccessarily a whole lot of bad turn cards I can see. An ace is obviously my one scare card, as I can't put him on spades with his preflop 3bet. This is also the first 3bet of his that I'd seen. On turn I was thinking that if a river spade came I wouldn't know what to do so I decided to keep the pot small by checking. In retrospect this may be the mistake. After his turn check I put him on a hand like jacks, which would merit me betting the turn obv but this then makes the river 8 quite scary. The hands I can now beat are AK(as long as it isn't AK of spades) annnnd...actually that about sums it up. Should I be calling in this spot ever or is fold correct? Also what do u think of the way this was generally played?

hmm, for starters, i'd probably fold kqs in early position at a fr table.
i'd bet flop ~2.50, obv. fold to strong resistance. tpgk isn't exactly a good hand to stack off with in this situation.
i'd check turn for pot control, as kj/fd just got there.
fold river, as one of the few hands that you potentially beat (jj) got there
