i have an inspiron 1720 17". no problems with vista. i had a problem with it not hibernating yesterday and just called dell, though they talked for an hour they fixed the problem...great service
later in the night i thought back about that process though and it is very scary that technology allows them to control my computer.. i mean if they can do that what else can they do

very true.
its all person oriented though. If you play games and poker, go with a desktop. If you just play poker and surf the internet a laptop would be good for you(i use a laptop with a 22'' LCD sitting right above it :D) |

Desktops are far superior. Laptops are not only a huge and annoying pain in the ass but their parts also degrade over time because of heat and close proximity. |

100% desktop, you can get a pretty good desktop for 1k these days, and a decent but not that great of laptop.
+ you already have a laptop so why would you want another one? if you want to travel etc just use that. |

The only reason I would get a laptop over a desktop is if you travel a fair amount and want to take your poker with you. Other than that, desktops are cheaper, more powerful, and more versatile. There is nothing a laptop has to compete with a dual monitor setup on a desktop.
The only option I could see would be if you get a laptop with a decent video card and when you are at home plug your laptop into something absurd such as a 30" screen. Then when you travel, just take the laptop with you. Problem is, 30" monitors are very expensive.
My current setup is a 24" main monitor and 20" for my secondary. The two of them allow me to fit everything I need on screen and have it be good size. Since your physical and emotional comfort is paramount in poker, that is something I would pay a lot of attention to. |
