WHere does money come from?

i was just thinking, there has to be at least 20 million or so USD put online on poker sites every week, getting deposited and lost online by the fish.

anyone have any friends who supply the poker economy be depositing their pay packets and losing it routinely?

do these guys really have that much fun playing and losing money? is it about the experience for them that they keep coming back?

I know quite a few people from local casino who regularly deposit and lose money at PokerStars. They mostly play tournaments, but also some smaller cash games (NL50 - NL200 I think).

There are no bad poker players, just unlucky ones. That's why they keep depositing.

but to OP...Right now..there are 114.669 players on Poker Stars - probably 40.000 on Full Tilt and some on other sites as well...

About 20-30% of those actually make money....the rest are the "friends" who "enjoy" losing money...

i was talking to someone on pokerstars chat, and he said he keeps depositing about $500 every week, even though he only earns $800 a week in total. seems like theres some major addicts out there

I know at least 12 people at my job who actually think they're good and in fact are total fishes, one dropped 2.5k$ within a single day, when i asked him why he kept depositing and play he told me he did it because he wanted to win his money back. After he dropped so much money he banned himself from PS. Im pretty sure he keeps playing and drop cash on a daily basis, his poker didn't even improved slightly since, he's still super terrible.

Alot of people will say "I'm gonna just play with 50 bucks today" then they play. If they win they move up until they lose it. Alot of people just play these tables for fun. A lot of times they simply don't think its a lot of money to blow occasionally.

I know one rich kid who worked at Bear Stearns who has lost over 50K in online poker over the past couple years. Guy was a total fish and had the biggest ego. I tried to give him a few tips but he refused to listen saying that he knows how to play well but has just been sick "unlucky". I just nodded my head.

ya it mostly comes from people who have jobs, think they're just losing because they are unlucky, and keep depositing. its pretty sad! usually its something they can afford but almost nobody deposits money thinking they're going to lose it.

i think there is a minority of people who deposit money that is meaningless to them, and they play stakes meaningless to them and its mostly for fun

my grand mother is an example of this, she plays 2c/4c limit and deep down she probably knows she not a winner but shes just having fun.

especially funny for northface since the fish money just climbs the ladder and ends up in his pocket. just think how many fish deposits it takes to finance his winnings.

there are a lot of rich ppl that like to gamble and/or compete. there are a lot of ppl that like to gamble and/or compete. almost everyone when they start playing are incompetent to how bad they are and the nature of poker generally keeps it that way unless as ket said you want to show how cool you are. i mean most of the ppl on here would of never played or started the same way until they saw poker threads on tl.net or the success that certain BW players were having.

Also if you're wondering - look at Atlantic city, Vegas, Foxwoods, etc. ALOT of people find gambling fun. I'm sure almost everyone here dislikes gambling so it doesn't make too much sense to them.

The only part of poker I hate is the gambling aspect.
