"Last night was one of the worst nights I've had in a while. It started off great with TJ, Erik and I getting Spa appointments. Afterwards we had lunch with Goncalo and his wife at Sushi Leblon, this absolutely amazing sushi restaurant very close to where we are living. That's when things start going downhill.

Erik got progressively drunker, and the drunker he got the more he wanted to argue. I should've just humored him, but for some reason I thought it was a good idea to argue back. This was the first mistake I made: arguing with a drunk man. Apparently, our arguments got so heated that TJ didn't want to deal with it anymore, so he left the hotel and took a walk outside...at 4:00 in the morning. Which led to my second mistake of the night which was continuing to stubbornly argue with a drunk man. The third mistake of the night came when Erik and I started getting very worried, because it was 5:30 AM in Rio de Janeiro and TJ was nowhere to be seen and had been gone for one and a half hours. When he finally got back, it was definitely time to go to sleep, BUT since he was so drunk I decided that I should drive him home vs him getting a taxi (as he may get screwed over by a taxi driver). HUGE MISTAKE.



On the way to his hotel I drove very carefully and got him there safely, but on the way back, when I neared my hotel, my fatigue and idiocy overcame me like a storm. I thought a light had turned green because no cars were coming, so I gassed it at a pretty major intersection, and to my surprise, turned to my right to see a bus heading straight towards me. Well, apparently regardless of what an idiot I am I still run really good at life, so this bus manged to miss the entirety of my porsche, and instead of crushing me entirely it managed to only hit the back right bumper. I stopped, completely dazed with the blood drained from my entire face, unsure of what to do as I had just crashed Goncalo's car. The bus driver came after me yelling at me in incomprehensible Portuguese, but ALL I could think about was how I had just crashed Goncalo's car...this man who had given me so much, the most generous person I know--who had given me this car to drive. I crashed HIS car. I'm such an idiot, and now I have to face the consequences. What a way to end one of the worse nights of my life."

Sounds like a bad night but any consequence that Goncalo can give is much better then you losing your life in a head on crash with a bus.

this is a v. shitty situation and i'm really glad everyone involved is ok and peachy's not hurt.

i would of driven TJ home too. cab drivers in south america are the scum of the earth and i can't imagine how bad they are in rio. there is like 0% chance a hammered foreigner is not going to get scammed and in rio who the fuck knows what the worst case scenario is. plus drunk driving is like standard down there. getting in a huge car accident while drunk in another country driving your friend's luxury car would be such a fucking awful experience though. i know when i was in a minor accident in my own shitkicker hitting a deer in the US sober it was pretty terrible so can't imagine how shitty peachy must have felt.
