if you are rolled and not neillying then it's perfectly standard obviously once you move up it's a big higher and it's not rare to run bad

don't concentrate on stealing blinds lol i spent ages trying to move up from 100 nl to 400 nl (don't ask why i skipped 200nl) after a few failed shots i realised its cos i wanted the awesome huge 6 dollars of blinds

poker is soooo much easier when you flop sets

So i were playing nl 100 for about 10 days and made 2400 profit playing something like 1,200 hands / day
It was going pretty well for me, not so amazing but quite good i think.
Then yesterday i decided i was gonna give it a try in nl 200, i was with 6.1k bankroll. My friend told me not, that i should stay more time in nl 100.
Anyway, after 600 hands i had lost 800 dollars. Got so fucking nervous, almost shaking and played pretty bad. ok, i lost 1 all in with 81% but all the rest were bad plays and etc.
My doubt is, does this kind of thing happen to you guys to? I mean, in 1 bad day u feel kinda bad and end up screwing up 1 week of good work
Maybe nl 200 is really harder then nl 100, but anyway i played so horribly

I almost always run good in my first session after moving up, then a few sessions later I'll lose a bunch

Yeah, it happens to everyone, don't worry about it. 6k is easily enough to play 1/2. Just make sure that if you usually play a ton of tables, when you move up, you cut down a little (like 3-4 instead of 8), until you have good reads and know who you want to play with and who you don't.

Hm.. Off-suite socks..

for god sakes stop gambling with 30 buyins when you're obviously getting stressed out because of it

this 30 buyin thing is so ridiculous you guys all convince each other that it's the way to go by repeating to one another that it's "enough for sure" even though it clearly isn't for some of you

if you move down disciplined enough then 2 buyins is enough in theory.. the reason why playing with 2 buyins and moving down when u lose 1 is because it's too stressful and causes u to play bad

this guy's saying he was literally SHAKING and even realised that he was off his game.. Skyward take my advice and keep playing 100nl until u made a lot of buyins and dont care at all about losing or gaining 500$

It's enough if you have the discipline to move down after a 5 buyin loss or w/e.

This guy lost 4 buyins and he still has 5200$. Enough time to rebuild and try again. Rinse and repeat. You're just staggering your progression by not taking shots. When you move up really play focused and only play 4 tables or so, that way you'll get used to the money etc.

I think that way is fine too Jelle, but the other way is fine too. The first time you lose a lot at a new limit (assuming you play poker with money that matters to you, which I've always done) YOU WILL feel bad (well most people will). I used to feel like shit if I lost 1k, now I don't feel anything if I lose 2k but when I lost 3k for the first time I felt like crap again.

Mass buyin way is fine, but as long as you don't tilt like crazy I think 30 buyins is fine if you're willing to deal with a little bit of stress.

Oh and Jelle, he was probably shaken by the thought that he was playing 400$ pots. Not that it was a huge part of his BR.

It's more about getting used to the amount of money involved than how big a part of your bankroll it is. At least that counts for me. Whenever I take shots at 1000NL I'm like wow this could be a 4000$ pot when I get lot of action with a big hand or w/e. I don't let it influence my play though and don't get shaken up.

QFT. I did this with both NL50 and NL100 and while I might have got lucky, I never had to move down on either stakes. And never force on yourself the thought that "I moved up to NLXXX, they say the game is tougher than on my previous stake so I have to be trickier / bluffier / tighter / more passive etc." Just play your standard game and observe how it goes; adjust and keep trying until you have improved to the level where you can stay at the given stake. Some people improve / adjust faster, some slower; don't force the changes as it may lead to you playing badly ---> tilt.

I took shot after shot and won at every level for like 3 months. Then one day I lost 4 BI at 25/50. "Mega standard" they all told me but that doesn't help your confidence. Move back down, build back up and try again. 4 BI should not tilt you at 1/2 with a 6k roll. I also had a theory that when I was losing at one level I would just move up one level higher nit up and wait to hit a sweet flop or cooler someone for a pot that made me a break even day. Amazingly it always worked.....until you go to 25/50 and start losing. Then there really isn't any FR tables running to try and get even at.

everytime i take shots at higher limits i lose, and it was like that everytime since NL200 .

when i went to NL200 i thought it was unbeatable, when i went up to NL400 i thought it was unbeatable, NL600 never was a problem for some reason... when i moved up to NL1k i thought it was un beatable, now I think NL2k and NL5k are unbeatable =[

so i would just say don't worry, it happens a lot, next time when u take a shot maybe use a stop loss of 2 or 3Bis ( I know ppl that use 1 Bi stop loss) and always play your game, don't try to play different just cuz it's another limit, it's the same game

i dont take shots, just move up and never move back down that is why i always have 100BI for a level.

if the money goes to your head you MUST move down until you're comfortable playing for more and more monies.

Any decent NL200 regular will stomp on you if the money matters to you/scares you or what not because even if you're "good" enough and have enough knowledge of the game to beat NL200 if the money still makes you shake then i'd bet against you being a winning player at that stake.

BTW I am not recommending that as it is definitely bad BR management.

Take your shots on Fri/sat/sun and game select hard: there are tons of games then at the stake higher than your normal stake which are much easier than your normal stake on a tuesday afternoon.
