you already have about 33% of your stack in the middle, villain is going to continue to bet with draws and over cards, and over pairs and bluffs (semi bluffs). i also think that, most players at $5 hu sngs, if they were to raise a hand pf, like K8 or A8, they would bet that flop, but i think they are more likely to C/R the turn because most players at this limit are completely horrible.
that being said, right or wrong, i probably play it like you did pf, but on flop i would raise to an amount that i consider committing, like 780 or 850ish, and then call a shove. |

also, given no real info on opponent, taking that line, i still expect to lose abot 25-33% of the time, and i expect to get a lot more folds than shoves or calls. |

Honestly I think u played it find if you folded the turn. I think it's hella spewy to be raising / shoving, you're being called a good percentage of the time and crushed almost every time you're called. Definitely -EV. You've committed 370 chips and are still plenty healthy if you fold and look for a better spot. |

FWIW most people in those HU donkaments are not two barreling like that with overs very often. Especially not since his bet-sizing seems to indicate he has some idea how to play. Definitely fold. |

i like your reasoning chris i think you hit it on spot. could you explain "but on flop i would raise to an amount that i consider committing, like 780 or 850ish, and then call a shove." compared to smooth call evaluate turn? |

yes. by smooth calling the flop you still gain no real info about the hand, and from my own experience, people at these limits often double and even triple barrell bluff if you let them. by re raising the flop to an amount like 750-850, you are essentially making a bet that either commits him to push, or he has to fold. villain is rarely going to think, well, i can call this and just fold turn, because that is only logic that would allow him to call. if he has the best hand, at least in his mind, he is going to shove, but he will do that with all sorts of heart draws, mostly Ah Xh since he RR'd pf. i also think he would overvalue pp's like 55 66 here alot too. if he has total bluff and is cbetting, he folds. i expect more often than not that he folds, and the times he calls i think you are flipping more than you are 'crushed' by overpairs or sets . |

sorry to spam post but, if you did smooth call, as you did, how can you really evaluate the turn? is the heart good or bad, because he could bluff on the heart, even if he is horrible. if it is a non heart, but pairs the board, did you let him value bet his way into making a set? if A K Q J T 9 comes, did he hit a pair higher than yours? if you think that you have the best hand on the flop, you have to protect it. by smooth calling, you arent really calling to evaluate the turn, you are calling to bluff catch. your hand is not strong enough to do that. call with sets, two pair, and over pairs.
that being said, i think the 8 is probably the safest card for you, since the villain is more likely to suddenly slow down and try to get trappy if he did indeed have 8x...idk, it just seems unlikely he is going to 3bet with A8, K8 or Q8 pf. |
