I think all the good ones have been named. Here's my list:

Dramas/Action:
1. Dexter-- I think I might even be owed some gratitude for introducing this to quite a few people.
2. House .. so much leveling going on constantly, most clever show on TV.
3. Lost..Don't ever watch it on TV, buy the whole series otherwise it'll drive you nuts with the cliffhangers at the end of every episode
4. 24 (how can you hate Jack Bauer?) -- Same thing as Lost though, you can't watch it on TV, you have to get the entire series.

Comedies:
1. CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM -- THERE IS NOT A SHOW EVER CREATED FUNNIER THAN THIS CRAP!! If you haven't seen it, there's 6 seasons and 10 episodes a season ... go get it, quick.
2. Entourage ... looks like HBO has decided they are going to make it their cornerstone since the Sopranos has completed, meaning we have lots of seasons to look forward to : )
3. The Office..duh

Can't be categorized:
Californication ... This could fit in as a drama, a comedy, a tragedy, dark humor .. i dunno how to describe it but the show is genius, David Duchovny plays such a G in it, looking very forward to season 2.

Weeds .. I used to watch this show w/ my girlfriend, it's gotten pretty lame, however, has grown on me a bit just because I've followed the characters and whatnot for like 2 seasons, plus I used to slang weight -- I'd have to say it's not very realistic in the sense of a show about drug dealing...at least from my experiences. Show that I think is the best representation of suburban drug dealing would have to be ................... i cant even think of one cuz none of them have really nailed it. The movie Alpha Dog came close just because there are so many retarded drug dealers and that movie definitely outlined one. Oh yeah, the movie Layer Cake. Most realistic movie with a background in drug dealing. Nothing else comes close.

LOL I remember in a scene in Dexter where Lila just goes up to some random kid on the street and buys roofies off of him ... there's no way that crap ever happens IRL. GL ever even finding roofies, if I had a lot of money, I would bet agaisnt anyone's ability to find them.

but its not a "story" its just a series of episodes, kinda like CSI.. it advances to give some sense of continuity however it doesnt have any but a very weak story besides the episodes, which are actually decent at first then they get awfully repetitive, again kinda like CSI it started strong and interesting, then it got repetitive to finally evolve into retarded where they found a micro fiber 35km away that only shoes made in an italian island have... and all that shit to figure out the death one 1 random hobo... house evolved into that quite fast too.

The Shield is definitely above that kind of tv show.

I will second Flight of the Conchords. Also watch every episode you can get your hands on of The Ofiice (US). Family Guy, Chapelle Show, Monk is decent but gets kinda predictable after awhile. . .still good tho. Seinfeld is a must man. . .fucking easily my favorite show. If you buy one random season and watch it all the way through you'll be hooked worse than crack.

I don't get it man. . . .after all the Dexter talk in this thread I gave it a shot and it didn't do it for me. Maybe it was all the build-up
