Anyone up for a simple playoff pool? The regular season ended today and playoff seeds are set. I'm thinking something like pick the winners from each series, if you pick the right team to win the series, you get 1 point. Winner takes all at the conclusion of the playoffs, send round 2s picks in when round 1 concludes
First game kicks off on Wednesday so if we're to do this, gotta get picks in by like, noon pacific time on Wednesday
-edit-
Lets go with uh, 6 people max - to try and keep split pots to a minimal - at $20 buy in a pop. 1 point for each series win picked straight across. Hows that sound?
I hope you guys trust me with your monies. I might go busto and run off with it. Just a heads up.
Right now, tentatively, heres the list:
Group 1:
1.) Fraser
2.) KrappyKonnect
3.) Subaru
4.) musclewheels
5.) matdon460
6.) gawdawaful
Note: I'll get out of group 2 if we have enough to run 2 full groups. If not well w/e. If you guys want to play 2 groups and pick different teams/same teams, then go nuts.
If we have more people, can always just run another group of 6 (and change it to elimination style? ie. 2 groups, top 2 from each group advance to last two rounds of NHL playoffs to play for the money)

i went to a calgary flames game and got the puck when it came over the sides - Iginla had scored with it - this was during his (other) 50+ goal season.
Basically, if you get all your picks right Subaru, you get 8 points. If for example, New York upsets NJ (gonna happen, see my bolded picks) you only get 7. And I get w/e amount based on the number of winning series I picked.
Then 2nd round, you pick from the remaining series. Each series win here adds 1 point to your total.
Rinse and repeat till we're done, player with most points takes home the money.
To the guy that sent me money, you might want to PM me your stars name. Someone transferred money but I have no idea who you are and I dont want to be outting anyones stars name if they want to keep it private

BY THE NUMBERS: The Flames and Sharks met four times during the regular season with the Flames staking themselves to a 3-1series win. Two of the games were in overtime..
THE OTHER SIDE: While many experts are picking the Sharks to win the series, players and coaches in that dressing room know it is going to be a battle. "It's going to be long and hard. Its going to be a battle against Calgary. If you don't come out ready, it will go the other way," said Shark forward Patrick Marleau.

Tie Break Proposal
Given that ties are inevitable (multi-way ties at that), heres what I propose as a tie-break:
At the concluding on round 3, all teams within 1 point of the lead, meaning you can realistically still catch the leader of your respective group, you will submit a "X team in Y# of games"
For example, if InSideOut & Fraser finish with 9 points each while KrappyKonnect & musclewheels finish with 8 points each after this round and the Stanley Cup Finals is between Detroit and Pittsburgh, each of you will pick a team, as well as A team that will win in a number of games. Meaning, you can pick Detroit as your pick, but go with Pittsburgh in 6 for the tie break.
The purpose of the latter part is to settle a tie in case there is one, not to be awarded a point to your tally.
InSideOut & Fraser picks Detroit to win
KrappyKonnect & musclewheels pick Pittsburgh to win
InSideOut picks Detroit in 5
Fraser picks Detroit in 6
KrappyKonnect picks Pittsburgh in 5
musclewheels picks Pittsburgh in 6
Result 1: Detroit wins in 5. In this case, InSideOut scoops group 1
Result 2: Detroit wins in 6. In this case, Fraser scoops group 1
Result 3: Detroit wins in 4 or 7. In this case, Fraser and InSideOut chops group 1 + Show Spoiler +
alternatively, for you guys to decide, we can play closest to the actual number, so if Detroit wins in 4, InSideOut would be closer therefore he wins. BUT, problem with this is, if one of you picks sweep and other picks the same team in 6, that creates a 2nd tie, so up to you guys if you want this or not
Result 4: Pittsburgh wins in 5. In this case, KrappyKonnect scoops group 1 by catching up in points and winning the tie break.
Result 5: Pittsburgh wins in 6, In this case, musclewheels scoops group 1 by catching up in points and winning the tie break.
InSideOut picks Detroit to win
InSideOut, KrappyKonnect, & Fraser picks Pittsburgh to win
tie breaker
InSideOut picks Detroit in 5
Fraser picks Detroit in 6 despite picking Pittsburgh to win for his point
KrappyKonnect picks Pittsburgh in 5
musclewheels picks Pittsburgh in 6
Result 1: Detroit wins series, InSideOut scoops group 1 by having most points
Result 2: Pittsburgh wins series, Fraser scoops group 2 by having most points
How does that sound as a potential tie break?
System can be implemented in 1 group but not other, so speak up for your respective groups.

For round 3 picks, they must be posted (or edited) OR received via PM (to me) before Thursday at 7:30 eastern/4:30 pacific. You have 2 days to get the picks in, so no late picks will be accepted. If you do not get the picks in, you don't get points for this round. LP time will be official time.
If the time stamp of your edit is AFTER 7:30ET/4:30PT, that will have to be treated as a late pick, therefore null & void for the round.

because that makes the last series worth a lot more than the previous ones. Plus having everyone to submit a pick before the game will be a nightmare

people just submit a series
game 1: pittsburgh
game 2: pittsburgh
game 3: detroit
etc.
the final round should be worth more than the other ones, its a closer match-up. the first round was worth 8 points and contained the easiest picks, but that means theres only 7 points total left in the other rounds.

i think if youre such a noob that you have to pick diff. teams to win because your pre-semi's guessing skills were whack then you have to suck it up and gambool.

So in order to have any potential to win money i have to pick against gawdawaful and somehow hope that nolan also picks pittsburgh to guarantee chop instead of gamb00ling it for first.
AND THEN the red wings still have to win
Detroit.

InSideOut, I wasnt planning on doing it since theres been too little feedback, but you guys can sort it out amongst yourselves

so tiebreak is on for group 2? Also are you guys clear on how I proposed it earlier? You're not restricted to picking the team you chose to win for your point.
ie. If Detroit wins, we have a 3 way tie and we go to tie break to decide who wins. If Pitts wins, tiebreak is between Nolan & I
Assuming night_front picks Detroit in 5 as his tie break, gawdawaful picks Detroit in 6 as tie break, Nolan picks Pittsburgh in 6 as tiebreak, then...
If Pittsburgh wins series, Nolan scoops ze monies via winning tiebreak (only gawdawaful & nolan's tiebreaks are in play, nightfront loses in points)
If Detroit wins series in 4 or 5, night_front wins 3way tiebreak
If Detroit wins series in 6 or 7, gawdawaful wins 3way tiebreak

well, there wasnt much feedback so I wasnt going to do it, but if 2 out of 3 from group 1 (you, InSideOut or KrappyKonnect) wants it, than its on

u have to decide if u want to employ a tiebreak system involving picking the number of games that the finals will take in order to avoid having to chop the pot.

the number of games the finals will take + a winner
but you're not restricted to picking the same team you picked for the point system
point system is the main decider, the tiebreak pick only comes into play if it ends in a tie after the final round.

if Detroit wins, you scoop group 2 night_front
if Pitts wins, Nolan and I chop group 2
In group 1, KrappyKonnect and InSideOut both went with Detroit in 7, leaving the door open for a possible Fraser backdoor FD with Pittsburgh in 6. So KrappyKonnect is effectively eliminated because he will not be able to catch up in points. Therefore in group 1, if Detroit wins, InSideOut scoops and if Pittsburgh wins, fraser scoops.
