I've been dealing a 5/10nl 5card Omaha game lately, only gambling high roller fish playing. I might be offered a stake to play in these games / play on my own and was wonderginig anyone has any advice on the best strategy. I know nothing about omaha in general, but these players are very very horribly awful and there's lots of money to be made. Any suggestions?

Average raise pre is between 40-100, with multiple callers just about every hand. The players arn't retarted but they like to throw their money around lots.

omaha is a strange game, i'd suggest you dont even sit in this without some real experience.

Well one of the basic rules of Omaha is don't chase the non-nut draw or you will get burned. Hands like AA and KK are good but generally need support. Generally don't raise AA/KK in early/out of the blinds or else you give your hand away. Of course if you have a monster like AAJ10, AAKK double suited, raise away. Other good start hands are doubled suited wraps(QJ109), suited double pairs, but these hands are rare. Doubled suited is good, but like holdem, don't play it just because it's doubled suited. Make sure they are decently high/connected. Other decent hands are nonsuited wraps(down to 789T or else you'll run into bigger straights), and hands like AQJT, hopefully you catch my drift by now. Postflop, wraps(holding x6810 on a x79 board giving you 6 outs(edit:cards 13 outs as meanseeds said) for a straight) are small underdogs to top set. Be careful of hands such as bottom set, and any two pair that is not top 2 since you'll be drawing dead many times. With hands like top two, try to see the turn and reevaluate what you have. Hands like trips with(edit:without) top kickers are also dangerous. So basically this is what i know about omaha, and you can apply 4 card omaha to 5 card omaha relatively easily.

phil hellmuth is genuinely a stupid person and he does not understand poker very well at all - [vital]mythLast edit: 26/03/2008 12:11
