Other

- The event was originally billed as UFC 196 and was scheduled to be headlined by a UFC Heavyweight Championship rematch between current champion Fabricio Werdum and former two-time champion Cain Velasquez. A series of events eventually led to a main event shuffle: on January 24, 13 days before the event, Velasquez pulled out of the bout due to a back injury and was replaced by Stipe Miocic. On the following day, Werdum announced that he was pulling out of the event due to injury as well as he wasn't comfortable with the opponent change while dealing with injuries of his own.
- With no viable main event options remaining, on January 26 UFC President Dana White announced the company was canceling the pay-per-view broadcast. Therefore, UFC 196 became a Fight Night card. The event will now air on Fox Sports 1 and will be headlined by a five-round welterweight bout between former UFC Welterweight Champion Johny Hendricks and five-time kickboxing world champion Stephen Thompson. The two were originally scheduled to meet in the co-main event.
- Mickey Gall, whose first pro bout and subsequent call-out of former WWE Champion CM Punk were featured on UFC Fight Pass' Looking for a Fight reality show, will face fellow newcomer Mike Jackson. With a win, Gall is expected to face Punk later this year.
- Burkman vs. Noons: Both guys fought at Welterweight for their last fight. This fight is at Lightweight, and it's the first time Burkman has ever fought at Lightweight. Due to the IV ban, it could make things interesting.

Zach Makovsky looked pretty good last fight I saw, the odds look really good on him to me. Any thoughts?

Benavidez by decision.

Odds are too wide on Benavidez - Makovsky. Makovsky worth stabbing, imo.

Nelson should starch Rosholt. He has good TDD and I just feel this is a typical Roy vs non elite heavyweight match up, where he is able to shine. Rosholt on the other is absolutely terrible on the feet and if he is not able to get Big Country down, he is going to sleep.

Main event is kind of interesting. I was thinking about stabbing Wonderboy just because I thought there is value in his big dog line, but that ship sailed with the recent line shift. Thinking about going Hendricks here at -200, he looks in great shape.

Could anyone tell my why I should not go allin on Hendricks? Im suprised the line is moving the way it is.

Why would this not be a easy win for Hendricks?
Hendricks is probably the best WW around and has extremely good wrestling, Wonderboy on the other hand does have great striking but I feel like he has never faced anyone even close to Hendricks.

I feel like if Hendricks can take GSP and Lawler down he should have no problem putting Wonderboy on the canvas as long as he gets a hold of him.

Also this will be his his fourth five round fight which will also be an advantage.

Maybe Im missing something?

That fight has a weird trap feeling to it. I thought the same thing, thinking Hendricks should be at least -300. In theory, he's a stylistic nightmare for Wonderboy, but we don't know what condition Hendricks is in, he's had several weight cutting issues in his recent fights. There might be an injury that he's been dealing with that hasn't been disclosed to the public, he hasn't fought in a while, the IV-ban might have a bigger impact on him than it does other fighters. I can't really explain it any other way, just feels weird so I'm staying away.

Most of the top guys have stsrted to adjust their diet due to the IV ban, Hendricks and Wonderboy included.

I think Hendricks went from -285ish to -210 because the fight was made into a 5 rounder and lots of people think Wonderboys chances are better in 5 rounds to find the tko.

Hendricks has gone 5 rounds 3 times and been ok. He's slowed down a little but he never completely gassed, and he looks to be in the best shape of his life, so I don't think 5 rounds is gonna hurt him.

Think he's great value at -210.

Correct.

A bunch of idiots think Hendricks gassed so hard in his 5-round fights, but it isn't true. Yeah, he slowed down, but he wasn't huffing and puffing. Everyone slows down in a 5-round fight.

And people who think Wonderboy has an advantage in a 5-round fight versus Hendricks are dumb. No need to explain the reasoning behind this.

Firas is usually great but having trained Wonderboy he seems pretty biased.

I just finished listening to it.

Aside from Firas mentioning Wonderboy being a great striker about 900 times, he didn't seem biased to me. He presented positives and negatives for both guys, and talked about the different scenarios.

From what I can tell, Firas was able to separate his bias just enough to give us an honest breakdown, which is something he is known for.

Basically when they cut to make the weight they completely dehydrate and destroy the body. It has to be replenished as much as possible and they do that with IV. In order to start a process to where people cut less weight and don't destroy their bodies in the process of dehydrating and rehydrating hey have introduced an IV ban, which means that many fighters have to take a different approach to their diet and weight cutting. In this case I would say it is a reason to bet on Hendricks because he has been reported to be taking all of that more seriously than ever. If that wasn't the case the IV ban would be a huge problem for him because he has always had trouble making weight, which is what Cosmo is referring to. I ended up betting fairly big on Hendricks for $660 at -220, I'm not a huge believer in Wonderboy and was considering going even bigger.

That sounds like a huge game changer for most of the fighters. No wonder McGregor went into the bigger division too. But lower division will suffer a lot because of it :/

USADA's reasoning for banning IV's is actually because apparently it's used to mask PED use somehow. I'd think it'd be super easy to get around. They test for it by testing your blood for whatever plastic IV bags come in. Apparently traces of it can be found in your pee. But couldn't you just use a glass bottle IV? Or a bunch of other materials?

Anyways, Hendricks is looking fucking scary. We might be seeing a new super Hendricks.
