First impressions:

Machida v Romero - Really on the fence, vintage Machida should pick Romero apart and KO him rather tactfully, but I don't know if he's there anymore athletically and Romero, as long as he's still juiced to the gills, might find that chin and end things. I'm thinking about the under @ -105.

Larkin > Ponzinibbio - Larkin looked incredible in his 170 debut in dismantling John Howard who isn't bad. Ponzinibbio is a good striker and a good test, but I think Larkin passes with flying colors and I like him to make a run towards the top 5-10.

Carlos Jr. > Gordon - Seems like a great match-up for a 205 pd grappler moving down to 85 vs a pure boring wrestler with some power moving from 170 to 85. Interested to see weigh-ins and how they look. If they look how I think they might, I'll be looking to bet Carlos Jr.

Santos > Bosse - Haven't actually watched Bosse but from what I understand he's a hockey player who can fight like you'd think a good hockey fighter should, and I don't see that working vs a fairly seasoned striker in Santos

Dias > Makashvili - Dias is very good and well-rounded. Makashvili had a lot of hype going into his UFC debut vs an average fighter in Mark Eddiva, but just used his wrestling to win and was actually losing the striking exchanges. Interested to see if he can redeem.

Olivera > Merritt

Rest of the card looks deplorable, no opinions

I see that Dana wants Machida dead by this year

PuertoRican   United States. Jun 23 2015 08:02. Posts 13039

Already had this thread prepared, was just waiting for the UFC to confirm the 9th fight.

I won't bet the entire card, just 4-5 fights at most. The only bet I have thus far is Lewis Gonzalez +130 for 2 units.

Why'd they book him against a guy who was getting worked by Brunson for 2 rounds before Brunson gassed, and kinda sorta got tko'd by Tim Kennedy.

I like Romero, he's a ridiculous athlete, But I think he is very hittable and has terrible fight IQ. He's also 38 and coming off a supposed knee injury where athletes usually get surgery but he opted out of. Dunno if thats legit or if he did that to dodged drug testing, but if he has to come off roids then he's in big trouble at 38 years old.

Hey Im slinging mad volume and fat stackin benjies I dont got time for spellin n shit - skinny pete

This was the first time a Ultimate Fighter Brazil Finale event would be held outside of Brazil. - A welterweight bout between Rick Story and Erick Silva was expected to serve as the main event. However, after the initial venue change, the bout was moved to a co-featured slot and the event will now be headlined by a middleweight bout between former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and Yoel Romero. Subsequently, Silva was pulled from the event as well with visa issues.

- Chas Skelly was briefly linked to a bout with Hacran Dias at the event. However, Skelly was pulled from the card due to illness and replaced by Levan Makashvili.

Aldo injured his rib in training. The fight hasn't been canceled yet.

They won't have Conor face someone else on short notice, especially since this fight has so much money invested in it. Dana White already said this is the most expensive fight the UFC has ever promoted.

Yup. Have a room booked at the MGM... was so excited.... so butt-hurt.

Dana White tweeted "everybody relax" as if to say this isn't true, but it very clearly is.

Something smells fishy about this whole thing. I think he got injured a few days or weeks ago and now the news leaked. If he actually broke his rib today, the fight's off 100 percent.

If it was a while ago and is leaking now, the very fact that the info is out is what could kill the fight, because if McGregor knows about a broken rib that Aldo was going to try and conceal, that's 100 x worse from Aldo's camp's perspective.

Edit: If Aldo is really out, and Edgar replaces Aldo, I'll still go, if not, cancelling room.

95% sure its off and they are just going to push back the fight rather than have connor get crushed by a wrestler before they make their money. They had Lawler Mcdonald on this card as backup imo

A) You are probably right about them pushing it back

B) The Lawler McDonald fight was not on there just for backup (certainly that's always part of it) but was mainly there to build the Welterweight champion. With McGregor Aldo, this does 1 million buys. Without it, it does under 300k no matter who main events.

C) This whole wrestler narrative is too simplistic and has gone way too far IMO. Mendes or Edgar are tougher matchups for Conor because of the elite wrestling dimensions of their games, but also because they are ELITE mma fighters. Conor would OBLITERATE a Dennis Bermudez or Ricardo Lamas who are both fantastic wrestlers. Don't buy into the general public polarization narrative that Conor beats strikers but would get destroyed by a wrestler just because we haven't seen him grapple much. It's retarded.

Off of Chael Sonnen's Facebook page:

"Aldo hurt his rib, that we know. Is he out? We can only speculate, but why not. Speculation is fun.
Aldo is in on the PPV. He he gets a cut as long as he meets predetermined thresholds. The bad news for Aldo is that he has never met even the minimum threshold and thus has never gotten to participate in a back end bonus. This fight will generate a million buys which would convert to a bonus of roughly 3.5 million dollars.

So.... Hurt or not, will he make the walk?
When your injury reports surface on the web, it may not be an issue of Aldo being tough and gutting it out, it may be one an issue of the Commision stepping in and saying "no go." Whoever within his team leaked the training room information to the media, may have just cost Aldo 3.5 million dollars."

Chael called it, Commision is stepping in, although I doubt Aldo would've fought after it leaked anyway, and I doubt the UFC would have allowed it as well.

The fight will get made and he'll get paid anyway when it happens.

I'm so pissed, along with many others who planned to be there in person, but at least no tickets were purchased.

Also, the more I think about it, the more there is no way they give Edgar the fight.

Advantage Conor though, not good to be entering the USADA PED testing era, coming off another injury, getting older, probably can't train as hard as he can't risk another injury (ala Cain Valasquez), and just giving Conor more time to train.

Edit: Nate Diaz is talking all kinds of shit trying to get the fight. I would actually be extremely excited about that fight as a co main event. So much shit talking. So much to back it up. And another striker for Conor to theoretically beat although it would be a relatively tough fight for him, just putting more hype into the Aldo fight as long as it played out as it should. Huge risk though, fun fight to think about.

Bad luck UFC... bad luck
Was looking forward to that match

Who do you mean by getting older? Both guys are in their prime imo Aldo s 28 Conor s 26
Would be fun to see Nate Diaz vs Conor, don't think Diaz would stand a chance, but would be fun nevertheless

damn, looks like 80% of main events/title fights somebody is out due to injury lately
im pretty sure the injure ratio on title fights is way higher than normal fights

Dont listen to anything I say

northsails   Bulgaria. Jun 24 2015 14:13. Posts 410

If Aldo is out, Conor vs Nate Diaz is the fight to make. There is no way they give the fight to Frankie so he can destroy all the hype by mopping the floor with Conor.

Nate Diaz on the other hand is still a relatively big name. The build up to the fight will be hilarious and Conor will probably destroy him in a showcase fight to create even more hype for his fight with Aldo.
