Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same | |

Just more your neighbor can read off your phone while you're using it. Im still using a note3. No contract plus "old" phone is the way to go in the cell phone world. |

Alcatel one touch - costs ~100-120 brand new. I had a sony xperia Z, but after literally one good drop on a concrete floor it would have cost ~250 just to get the screen fixed. That pissed me off.
It's nowhere near as flashy as most, but it calls and texts. And I can play CoC, so wtfever. |

Need to buy a new phone myself stuck between choosing the OnePlus One or the Moto X. I want the slick looking AMOLED display on the X but the One is cheaper and has more memory and better specs so I'm leaning that way. I'm glad both phones got recent price reductions due to impending next gen releases. Non-contract phones seem very +EV with less expensive service providers like ting or republic wireless. |

Verizon has the best service by far and if you become edge they hook it up. I dont see the problem with phone contracts. We are all going to need a cell phone basically every day of our lives. One to two year contracts allow us to get the 800 dollar machines (premium phones) for a quarter of retail. Ur going to have a cell phone expense no matter what so what truly matters is just the average monthly price.
If non contract plans are cheaper then fine go with them for that reason but not because there is anything intrinsically wrong with contracts. Only time they become a problem is when you can't pay the bill, smash your phone too much run out of insurance and need to start another contract to get another cheap smartphone, and can't take advantage of every subsequent cell phone deal that comes along |

Oh and from what I have seen contract plans actually offer a better value.
Non contract plans often target the poor and uneducated who don't understand the way the fee structures are set up are worse despite being advertised as a cheaper option to major carriers. Exploiting people with bad credit and few good options. Much like the prepaid checking vs retail banking system and shit like that. |

i feel the opposite is true. in general over 2 years contract + subsidized phone will cost the same as full price phone + lower monthly no contract fee.
everything past 2 years tho, and you're losing money on the 2 year contract if you don't upgrade your phone. |

Fucking this. I was sold on the waterproof aspect. stupid me. Mind you, I got my first cell phone in Jan of last year.. late bloomer hah.
@ trax - And I 100% disagree w/ you about thinking contracts are better. I'm not sure how contracts work down there in the states, but it's wayyyyyyyyy better to have a phone going in to a contract. It's similar to paying for anything completely up front or getting gouged by interest.
Kinda sucks I'm still paying for an expensive sony phone thats contract won't be done until next Jan. while I'm using this cheap chinese knockoff, but whatever. F sony phones. And F 2 yr cell contracts. Once this contract is up I'm gonna buy some unlocked ~yr old model off a reputable seller on ebay. Save myself a bunch of money. |

I think the S6 edge is really nice. I'm sold on nexus devices though. I don't like having to mess with custom roms to get the latest software updates. I have a nexus 5 and am anxiously awaiting the new nexus 5. |
